Has anyone said otherwise? No.
At what point does "less than perfect" become an atrocity worthy of asylum?
That is decided by our courts. You have to have been persecuted or targeted by a tyrannical government to get asylum into the United States. Look at all the children who live in squalor in all of Africa. How about the hundreds of millions in the middle-east? We simply can't take all these people in without the risk of losing our own country.
Yup.
And are you aware of the violence and rape and trafficking that occurred when Trump sent them an invitation to wait in Mexico? Are you also aware that under Trump, there was not a significant decrease in people attempting to enter the country? In other words, if you care about the brutality along the journey - it had no impact. The only impact was a huge bottleneck of immigration cases, and a huge number of people experiencing violence on the Mexico side as they waited.
Does Trump get a free pass?
Yes he does and this is why: Trump told people that applying for asylum at our border and getting in the country only to disappear and never be seen again is over. He changed the policy of having to be here personally to apply for asylum, and you have to apply at the US embassy in their country. Also included in Trump's policy was that if you were offered asylum in any other country along the way, and refused, it's automatic disqualification for US asylum.
The US will contact you on your court date for your asylum hearing. People that are waiting in Mexico made that choice to wait there; Trump didn't force them there.
Trump policies decreased border crossings by over 80% in 2019.

No argument from me on that, though personally I'd like to see more legal immigration avenues and other changes to the system that requires congressional action.
It can't work. A million a year is too much in my opinion. People who come here need to assimilate into the US. The way things have been the last 20 years or so, they care coming here and changing our culture. They flood our schools and slow down the learning process for American students, you have to press 1 on your phone to continue in English, most signs are bilingual in stores and buildings, they take jobs Americans could have, and lower wages for the Americans who are working. It's a failed system, and bringing in more only exacerbates the situation.
What we really need to do is totally close down our border until the people here assimilate into the American way, then perhaps allow more in. And actually, we did do that before in our history. And actually, the majority of legal immigrants are the ones who supported Trump's efforts to stop illegal immigration.
We actually do get a "thank you" in that often immigrants here are hard workers, good citizens and take their citizenship far more seriously than many native born Americans do. They don't tend to take it for granted because they had to work for it.
But there is something "not worthy of being called human" in treating illegal immigrants as "less than human". And please don't jump to the opposite pole and take that to mean open borders. There is a lot of area in between.
No, there is nothing in between. Again, the United States is the only civilized country in the world that allows a million people to become citizens of their country every single year. We are doing more than what you on the left like to call "our fair share." Sorry we don't have room for the other 7 billion people on this planet.
You want to work at a certain company but they're not hiring. So you go there and just start working anyway. Do you think they will hire you because you do good work? No they won't. They will ask you to leave and likely call the police. The same holds true for immigration. They intruded in our country, started working, and you feel because they didn't start any trouble and good workers, they should be allowed to stay.
That's not how it works here or in any country. If you want to be part of this great nation, you need to apply for a green card and take all the necessary steps to become a citizen. That's the right way to do it.
