...it's a 'CAREER KILLER'!

'Career killer': Obama's new overtime expansion under fire

"These rules are a career killer. With the stroke of a pen, the Labor Department is demoting millions of workers,” David French, a senior vice president for the National Retail Federation, said in a statement Wednesday morning.

The White House estimates the rule change will raise pay by $1.2 billion a year over the next decade. In addition, some companies may instead choose to reduce their employees' hours to avoid paying the extra wages."

Sounds good, right? Not so fast!

"But critics warn workers could actually lose out as employers try to avoid the extra costs by converting salaried workers to hourly ones in order to more closely track working time, and cutting back in general.

Business groups say the changes will increase paperwork and scheduling burdens for small companies. The NRF’s David French said hundreds of thousands of workers in the retail sector alone will lose salaried-employee status.

“These regulations are full of false promises. Most of the people impacted by this change will not see any additional pay. Instead, this sudden and extraordinary increase will mean more red tape and fewer advancement opportunities for salaried professionals,” he said."

"Sam Batkins, a regulatory policy expert at the conservative-minded American Action Forum, told FoxNews.com earlier this week the directive is one of the “costliest rules of the year” and estimated a $2 billion price tag."

Why is Obama trying to 'help' the middle class get paid more? Primarily because he promised his ACA would not cause the middle class to lose health insurance and jobs - it cause many to lose both. In an attempt to avoid Obamacare Mandates businesses dropped worker health care coverage, fired workers, and / or eliminated full-time jobs by converting them to part-time jobs.

Many businesses are arguing while the Liberals / Obama has good intentions - like with the ACA - their results will hurt workers more in the end. (And Liberals always demand to be judged on their INTENTIONS, NOT the end result!)

And now the right wing loons think you shouldn’t make overtime. Between that and minimum wage hatred….their opposition to the American worker is getting almost cartoonish.

Candy, do you work a hourly wage? More importantly do you won / run a job that pays an hourly wage?

If you are a small business on a budget, trying to make it..
- If the government steps in and tells you that you if you are going to pay for your full-time employees' health care you are going to pay MORE for it, you can't just decide to make more money to cover the additional cost. It doesn't work that way.

You probably can't lower your own salary because most of what you are already making is already going back into the business.

You can't just pull the additional money out of your arse, so you have to make tough choices.

Out of the 4 employees working for you, all depending on their salaries so their families can make ends meet, you can either cut their hours down to part-time instead of full-time, reducing the amount of money they make, but allowing you to escape the costly Obamacare mandates.

You could just cancel their insurance, again allowing you to escape the mandates, but now depriving your workers of healthcare.

Let's say you pinch pennies and make personal sacrifices to protect those workers - you find the money, keep them at full-time, and provide them with ACA healthcare. Now Obama says you have to pay them overtime. More expense. More Cost. Businesses aren't going to eat that. Prices will rise...if too high business will suffer, less money less money to pay employees. Or you can finally decide you are going to have to let one (or more) of those employees go to cover the cost of overtime.

So government sets out to 'help' and ends up putting an employee or two...or the entire business ... out of work. In a perfect world on paper making sure employees get overtime is a great idea.

Right now I work for a company that does not pay overtime. Do the work, put in the overtime, or find another job. In this economy trying to find another job is easier said than done....so there is 'no overtime'.

Candy, you also say the RIGHT's opposition to American workers are getting 'cartoonish'....maybe that is why Obama and the left is flooding the nation with illegals willing to work jobs for much less that Americans, why the left is facilitating / engaging in human trafficking, protecting federal law-violating sanctuary cities, seizing and using hard-earned tax dollars to pay these illegals welfare, food stamps, medical care, housing, and - as reported today in the news - using our taxes to find them jobs for the summer...instead of using the money to help veterans needing health care, using the money to help small businesses, using the money and influence to get businesses to bring jobs back to this country, etc?

LIBERAL policies and minority-supported pieces of legislation forced into law against the majority will of the American people - such as the ACA - has CAUSED workers to lose their health care, lose their jobs, and lose much-depended on full-time hours DESPITE the lie/promise that the ACA would cause no such thing.

So spare us the 'holier-than-thou' pious false attempt to take some moral high ground on this issue. Libs have done more than their fair share to F* the American worker over.

Once again the retarded left fucks over workers thinking employers will play by the government rules.

.

Poor Mr. Businessman, he might actually have to pay his employees for the time they put in on the job.

Poor employees depending on those salaries may find themselves out of a job, their salaries going to pay for the overtime of their fellow employees.

If the economy was better perhaps this wouldn't be an issue, but since this President is responsible for the slowest recovery since the Great Depression, is the 1st President not to see 3% growth, has more people on food stamps than any other time in history, and a massive decline in the middle class...if this President / Liberals weren't more worried about bringing in illegals and getting them jobs instead of taking care of Americans 1st...instead American workers are taking it in the shorts.

You're an idiot. Like that's news. The rules will be bad for workers because employers will cut their hours and pay. You cannot magically raise wages by signing a document. Only nincompoops like you do not understand that.

No, he doesn.t He can lay off employees or close the business, putting everyone out of work.
How did you miss that? Oh yeah you never ran a lemonade stand much less anything else.

No it doesn't fucking SOUND like a good idea, what it sounds like is more hair-brained government economic intervention which will cause more unintended negative consequences which will spawn further hair-brained government economic intervention to fix the problems caused by all their other idiotic ideas, which will cause more unintended negative consequences... and on .. and on ..and on it goes.

Isn't it about time we got off the rollercoaster that's spiraling the U.S. Economy down into ruins and just smack the living shit out of any politician that even thinks of proposing more of these incredibly imbecilic central planning measures?
