Except that I have no interest in Ruling, being part of the power structure or in charge.

I want to walk into a bank or mechanic shop and know there will be a Man therr to conduct my business with.

I have no desire to be a leader. I never have. Hell, I turned down a Supervisor job 5 years ago thst would have given me a 50% pay raise because I don't want thise headaches. Give me a decent system to live in and I'll follow the drummer right off a cliff if necessary. Just save me from 99.97% of people who don't deserve to make decisions on their own.

In England, many of the rich and wealthy had lovers. As long as the poor didn't find out about it, it wasn't a scandal. Why?

Well, because the King or Queen was the head of the church, to keep control they needed to pretend they were "morally correct", they just weren't.
