I started to present this topic as just another example of GOP hypocrisy -and it certainly is that, However it is also something much more profound- and very, very sad.
Some questions that come to mind:
How much of his anti LGBT rhetoric was driven by his need to deny his own sexual orientation, while ultimately succumbing to the burning need to express his true self?
What is wrong with a political party that sends a clear message to people that your political values and talents are irrelevant if you do not conform to our standards of sexual orientation and gender identity?
What is wrong with a society that tolerates and supports a social and political environment that causes someone to have to choose between being able to openly express their sexuality and their career ?
What abilities and talents that this person may have had , have been buried and squandered because of the bigotry that he would have surly faced-and is facing now ?
How has is personal life and emotional well being been impacted by the irrational opposition to , and condemnation of his sexuality, that he felt he had to suppress.?
Lastly, how much better would we be as a society, how much healthier would we be as individuals, if we just allowed people -including ourselves- to be their true selves in all respects- without stigma of judgement ?
