FUN things in life you don't see anymore.......

That was the really FUN part...........having the sound come thru your car radio!!!!
LOL, I didn't grow up in that era. We had speakers that were mounted on poles that you rolled up in your window. Many people would forget they were there and damaged their window as well as pulling the speaker off of the post.

Just simple little perks of being in a country like America................

Many of these were unexpected, but fun none the less.

Prizes in the box of Cracker Jack.

Prizes in the bottom of your cereal box.

Free gifts for buying a full tank of gas.

Free dish towels in your box of laundry detergent.

Door prizes at department stores and grocery stores for customer of the month, or customer who spent the most money shopping that day, or etc....

Lifetime supplies of gifts for "The One Millionth Customer", or new kitchen appliances

Free cookies or candy for kids

Small gifts for kids at some restaurants when kids were very well behaved

Sweepstakes for things people needed......cars, appliances, years supply of food, new house, new trailer house.....

Free set of dishes for buying so many groceries
Free set of silverware or fancy glasses for buying so many packs of cigarettes

There's so much greed and corruption nowadays, nobody does this anymore. It's all about which company can price gouge us the most, for the most cheapest garbage made in China.

There's still a drive in in Colville, Jack. No speakers though--the sound comes through your car radio.
As many times that I have traveled 395, sometimes all the way up north to to the lil town of Orient I somehow did not connect with the Auto View Drive-In Theater. On Google Maps I'm parked on 395 just south a few yards of the back of the big screen. That green colored back side of the big screen is pretty daggoned effective with blending into the surrounding topography. Even with those two aircraft recognition vertical white stipes painted on the back side of the big screen, the big screen just simply blends right into it's surroundings. That double sided Billboard & the AAA Mini Storage sign plus the road sign on the green-treat post rounds it out regarding camouflage! The mini-storage complex no doubt is critical regarding year round income to keep the Auto View Drive-In Theater open for the local folks enjoyment.

I REALLY appreciate the SMALL TOWN BANDS that so amplify/round out the small town Americana heritage, like Stevens county is the best I have ever experienced;

Take in the Auto View Drive-In & get a FREE LIGHT SHOW to boot;

Well Big Daddy it's coming time again to start praying for rain like fire season is right around the corner for us. Crop fires are my terror ESPECIALLY grain(incendiary) crops. In your neck of the woods it's the evergreens ESPECALLY the pine(roman candle) trees. So far we definitely have some action but not too close to home, YET!!!

I had a great uncle that was a sweet old guy, and when I'd run into him downtown, he'd pull out his rubber coin purse just like that, only brown, and ask me if I needed bus fare to get home, or if I wanted a quarter for the movies. Good guy.

I mostly remember penny candy. Mom would send us to the mom & pop store with a list of groceries, and the guy at the counter would throw in a handful of penny candy -- or I'd find a penny on the sidewalk, and I'd feel RICH, knowing I could go to the store and get a root beet barrel, which would give me about 15 or 20 minutes of that sweet taste in my mouth!

Back when sweets were a luxury!

I was a master at making my pennies produce a lot of candy. I remember buying Sixlets. You'd 6-8 little candy coated chocolate balls for a penny. Quite a score at the time. LOL

I LOVED Sixlets! You're right -- we felt like we were getting quite a score!
