Why do you assume the 4.5 million joined the welfare class? Perhaps they had enough money to retire, perhaps they had enough money for one parent to stay home and raise the children. There are a lot of reason people leave the workforce, few do it to join the welfare class.

No they didn’t move on to higher paying jobs. They moved on to higher paying welfare.

Yup. Managers I know are reporting that their former workers simply are refusing to return to work. If these deadbeats had gotten a better job, they would have told their former boss.

It really is the part-time jobs that people are refusing to return to. These were often 2nd jobs to contribute to the family income, such as retail a few afternoons or evenings a week, or restaurant staff. If they have kids, they are getting almost as much with the new government child support deposits (tax-free), so they are simply refusing to work.

The long term effect is more worrying. This means we have added that many to the SS roles and have not brought up enough young people to replace them to pay for it. Those 4.5 million jobs didn’t just disappear and aren’t needed.
