Liberal Christians

I am definitely a liberal. You are not.

You're more 'progressive' than 'liberal'. Real liberals do not seek to tell others how to live.

And I find your remarks about Catholics offensive, childish, and generally dumb.

Conservatives tell gays how to live. I don't tell Catholics how to live. I point out they politically organize against gay marriage. I am the most liberal poster at USMB. I don't think I've met a poster here whose views lean as left as mine do.

Obama to me, is moderate, nearly a Republican.

You are far from the most liberal poster at USMB. Rdean is more liberal than you, and he is a partisan hack.

FYI, leaning left does not make you a liberal. In fact, the further left you lean, the less likely you are to be liberal. Most liberals are left of center, and agree with some conservatives about smaller government and the rights of people to everything they own.

I am definitely a liberal. You are not.

Liberals focus first on liberty and equal rights. They speak up even when someone who they hate is being persecuted or oppressed. Liberals follow the principles of the Age of Enlightenment, they believe that the government rules only by consent, and that individuals have fundamental rights to life, liberty, and property. Those are the core beliefs of liberals. They see different ways to get to those beliefs, so there is a broad spectrum of beliefs in liberalism, but if you do not hold those core beliefs, you are not a liberal.

I am closer to those core values that you are. Most conservatives on this board are closer to those core beliefs than you are. Like I said, I am closer to being a liberal than most liberals on this board, mostly because most liberals on this board are actually progressives.

Most 'conservatives' on this board are bigots, if we accept their word that they are conservative. One can argue the definition of liberal, conservative and progressive all day, but the OP asked about being "Christian" and that too requires definiton. Their are "Sunday" Christians and Christians who practice the values JC is purported to have preached everyday. Not the values preached by too many of the clergy today.

We can also argue about the color of the sky. That does not change the fact that liberal is a term I would not apply to Skydancer, Locke would listen to her and declare her a tyrant.

I'm looking for Christians who practice Jesus values and who are politically liberal. Not necessarily church goers.

That is part of your problem, you do not know Jesus's values. If you do not go to church you really are not practicing them.

Okay - well. I don't know why you are looking for "liberal Christians" then, because it sounds like you just want to poke fun at the faith of believers, period.

Exactly. She doesn't talk to believers, she wants to find people who say they believe who support her position that Jesus was a lie.

No, not really. I'm interested in talking to Christians who do not practice in a church or have fundie views. I'm interested in talking to people who follow Jesus teachings and consider themselves politically liberal.

I do have my days when I want to "poke fun". Not now. Not today. I think it's safe to say most conservative Christians rub me the wrong way, and I do the same to them. Some days I'm angry about some stupid thing a Christian said or did and I unfairly "light into" someone who doesn't deserve it. Some days, some people do the same to me.

Most of the Christians I've met here are very conservative. I know there are liberals out there. I want to meet them.

Well, if that's not where you want to go, then don't go there. You want to talk about the bolded bit, then don't start in about your own belief systems. Ask questions about the bolded bit.

I don't do church anymore. Too much legalistic damage was done in my decades there.

Just because you had problems with a church that was legalistic does not mean all churches are the same.

See what I mean?

I am more liberal than most liberals on this board. Yet, because I do not fit your definition of liberal, and because I am a Christian, you respond with insults.

Be here now. Do you want to talk now or not? Tell me about why you think you're a liberal.

Your problem is that you seem pretty fucking cool with insults from those you agree with, but get your panties in a bunch with insults from those you do not.

I find that to be more than a tad ignorant.

Kinda like getting neg repped because you disagree with my opinion and calling me an ignorant bitch? You don't agree with me so you have to insult? I don't know if you call yourself christian or not, but that's not how a christian would respond. I have friends are Catholic, we agree to disagree.

Certain things get negs. Referring to my faith as a 'cult' is one of them. Don't like that? Un-fucking-lucky.

Moron.

Is this how the leader of you're cult tells you to respond??? Lol :) That's cute, very Christian of you....but i'll forgive you. My Christian faith frowns on that language......

I'd like to meet you. I know you exist.

The Holy Bible is the Foundation of Christianity, it contain neither word "liberal" nor "liberal Christian".

That isn't my question. Right now, conservatives seem to think they are the only "true believers" in Jesus teaching.

I want to talk to liberals who happen to be Christian too.

Exactly. She doesn't talk to believers, she wants to find people who say they believe who support her position that Jesus was a lie.

I didn't say that Jesus teachings are a lie. I said historical evidence for Jesus is slim.

I don't think Jesus intended that he be worshipped as a God. I think he came to show that human beings have the capacity to be one with God, and that God is within. Not to establish a religion that excludes people.

Christians I'd like to meet are the ones who pray in secret and aren't threatened by the idea that the NT may be wisdom teaching rather than literal or historical truth.

Guys,

only very naive lefts can believe there are liberal Christians. Either you are a Christian or you are even not, period.

No one true Christian denomination can support homosexuality, abortions, drugs, alcohol, pornography, Islam, communism and other liberal "values".

Thank you for proving my point. You think it's impossible for someone to be political left leaning and Christian.

You're wrong. See ya. I want to meet some liberals who are Christian, not the boring, narrow minded, holier than thou moralists I've already met here.

LOL,

in this case you should looking for liberals who mind to be Christians.

Liberals who MIND to be Christian. WTF does that mean?

We have been through this before, the historical evidence for Jesus is more plentiful than the historical evidence for Alexander the Great. What you choose to believe about why he came is irrelevant, you are not Jonathon Livingston Seagull.

Yes, I actually read that book, I think it is a wonderful book. I recommend it to people all the time, and think it should be a part of the library of anyone that is interested in religion and/or spirituality. Unlike you, I actually support liberal ideals and encourage people to think for themselves. I believe that anyone that honestly examines the evidence will end up agreeing with me that Jesus existed, that he was executed, and that he was raised from the dead to prove that God is real and that the message that Jesus preached is the truth.

You do a disservice to him by claiming he taught something he clearly did not. Jesus does not exclude anyone, they, like you, choose to exclude themselves.

Yes, he does, at least his churches do. I don't think Jesus message is that he be worshipped. I think the message is to follow in his footsteps. IMO, there was no adam and eve or "original sin" and Jesus was not a savior. He was a teacher of wisdom and love.

Few Christians do. They're too busy condemning other people.

I know it doesn't. As I quoted above - Pastor Dave Johnson, Church of the Open Door. Or the church my daughter attends.

I have anxiety issues, and crowds are not my friend. I'm as likely to have an adverse reaction to going to the store as I am going to church.

I worship in my own way, in my own space and time. And while a good many Christians would not understand, I believe that God does.
