Carter destroyed the economy very much like Biden did. Energy stupidity, inflation, massive expansion of government, cuts to defense at dangerous levels. Carter was removed in one term by a landslide. Thats not because he did good job.Congress made the defense cuts after we tucked tail and ran from Vietnam. Carter was handed an economy in disarray. Inflation was out of control. Nixon took us off the gold standard. They even tried to institute wage and price controls. The Vietnam Retreat. Watergate fall out. Carter wasn't able to fix all the problem he was handed until he appointed Volker. We didn't have a rapid deployment force to deal with rapidly evolving threats overseas. Carter was responisble for starting that effort as well. He was a politician ahead of his time. He ran on energy independence in 1976, but big oil had importing cheap oil from SA on it's mind instead.
In reality. Congress officially cut off funding for combat operations in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia through a heavily bipartisan vote in 1973, which passed 325–86 in the House and 73–16 in the Senate. Long before Carter was president. Ford as CIC could have resumed of the war after the North started it's last offense, but he fell to political pressure.South Vietnam fell because the democrats REFUSED to honor our treaty with them and cut support so much the South couldn't support their military.
Do you mean they were handed a disastrous economy that they had to immediately deal with? SOP for the GOP.Carter destroyed the economy very much like Biden did.
the democrats-controlled congress and they cut off the South and refused to honor our treaty, go figure the democrats ignoring our allies, which cost us big time for years. In reality. Biden was handed a GDP 6.4% and inflation at 1.4%. How was that a disaster. Biden caused the disaster with massive debt spending we never needed and his war on oil. Inflation went up to 9.1% in one year.Do you mean they were handed a disastrous economy that they had to immediately deal with? SOP for the GOP.
They did not have a veto proof, or a filibuster proof, majority and the vote was overwhelming. Ford refused to act. As CIC the choice was his. The War Powers Act allowed him, and other President, a free hand for 60 days....... The mood of the country was for us to get out. Just like after 20 years of occupying Afghanistan. The GOP just likes to pin false blame on Carter. That really has become their favorite cookie cutter model too.the democrats-controlled congress and they cut off the South and refused to honor our treaty, go figure the democrats ignoring our allies, which cost us big time for years.

When President Biden took office in January 2021, the U.S. economy was heavily impacted by the pandemic, with 9.5 million fewer jobs than pre-pandemic peaks. Both parties supported the spending on the various relief plans. Treasury reports indicate that the U.S. saw strong employment growth and achieved a "soft landing" compared to other nations, with robust GDP growth over the first three years. Contrary to the Neo-GOP propaganda, Biden didn't hamstring the Energy Sector as we became more energy independent than ever before. Producing and exporting a record amount of petroleum produces as well as producing a record amounts of Renewable energy.Biden was handed a GDP 6.4% and inflation at 1.4%. How was that a disaster. Carter was the cause of stagflation and the worst S&L bank failure in history.
Biden and Carter one term presidents. Trump and Reagan served two terms.
When you defend failure it defines who you are

Stagflation was started in the Nixon era.
Reagan's stupid joke almost triggered a nuclear holocaust because one Russian command took it seriously and went on high alert.

This Single Joke by Reagan Put the Soviet Military on Alert
My fellow Americans....We begin bombing in five minutes.www.military.com
I voted for Reagan twice, because I was 18 and didn't know any better.
Since then, I have to evaluate the damage he's done.
1) He made "Borrow and Spend" acceptable by cutting taxes on the rich. If you want someone to blame for our 30 trillion deficit, thank Reagan.
2) He gave the green light to union-busting that has demolished the middle class in this country.
3) He ramped up the policy of funding "Freedom Fighters" to annoy Soviet allied regimes, like the Mujahedin in Afghanistan (which later morphed into the Taliban and Al Qaeda) and the Contras in Nicaragua (which made big money by flooding our streets with crack cocaine).
4) He engaged in the kind of reckless deregulation that led to the 1990 S&L Crisis and eventually the 2008 crash.
But he was a damned sight better than Trump. The problem is, of course, that the policies he pursued would be blasphemy to the Orange Cult.
- He gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants.
- He appointed moderates to the Supreme Court
- He supported the Brady Bill
- He raised taxes when it was clear that Supply Side wasn't working (which is why Bush had to do his "Read my Lips" pledge that he broke.
So why is he well-regarded today by Republicans?
Because he's the only Republican in the last 50 years who wasn't voted out of office (Trump, Bush, Ford), put us into a recession at the end of the term (Trump, Bush-43, Bush-41, Ford, Nixon), or was impeached (Trump, Nixon).
TEFRA cut taxes and also removed many tax deductions used by the wealthy and business owners. The economy took off after that.He made "Borrow and Spend" acceptable by cutting taxes on the rich.
And now the rich pay a much higher portion of federal income taxes.
He raised taxes when it was clear that Supply Side wasn't working
Cool story. What were the rates before he raised them? What were they after?
Okay, here's the problem with that.
First, Reagan had nothing to do with the fall of the USSR, and our leaders were completely caught off guard by its collapse. I remember in 1990, when they were still issuing us glossy guides to Soviet Weapons touting what a threat they were, when in fact, the whole thing was quietly falling apart.
Nothing to with Reagan at all. It had more to do with 200 million Non-Russians no longer wanting to be ruled by 150 million Russians, and the Russians themselves not really wanting to bother with an empire.
The fall of the USSR was simply the last colonial empire falling.
As for the "Carter Disaster", the cure was worse than the problem. Sure, inflation got under control eventually, but at the cost of destroying the middle class through union busting and driving down wages. It was like fixing a hangnail by amputating your arm.
The process at work among the left who hates Reagan and Trump is they both firced democrats to face the failure of their beliefs.First, Reagan had nothing to do with the fall of the USSR,
Hilarious!
and our leaders were completely caught off guard by its collapse.
Reagan pressured them on all fronts. It worked quicker than we had hoped.
Nothing to with Reagan at all.
Our booming economy, our deal with the Saudis to drop oil prices and our massive military buildup showed the Soviets they couldn't compete with their shitty economy.
Compared to Carter's stagflation and sweaters, because energy was expensive.
The Iranian hostage crisis showed weakness and less than 2 months later, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan.
LOL!
GDP 2020 was -2.2. In 2021 it was 6.1Biden was handed a GDP 6.4% and inflation at 1.4%. How was that a disaster. Biden caused the disaster with massive debt spending we never needed and his war on oil. Inflation went up to 9.1% in one year.
Biden wrecked the economy.
Carter was the cause of stagflation. I had two retail stores doing well until Carter drove up energy costs, the prime interest rate was over 18% no one could borrow, CPI went up 60%.
Both Biden and Carter were one term presidents. Thats where the facts are. They Fd up and they were removed
Very true.1) He made "Borrow and Spend" acceptable by cutting taxes on the rich. If you want someone to blame for our 30 trillion deficit, thank Reagan.
Except the collapse of the USSR had nothing to do with that.
The USSR collapsed because the constituent republics, including Russia, decided they no longer wanted to be part of it.
Remember Yelstin standing on a tank? It happened when the hardliners tried to depose Gorbachev for being too liberal.
That't not true, either. The Reagan Recession of 1981-82 didn't end until the end of 1982 (and we were still feeling the aftereffects until 1983, when unemployment peaked at 11.3%). The Next recession hit in 1990 under Bush. So we had maybe 7 years of limp growth
