Let me explain to you our best of all times president

GDP 2020 was -2.2. In 2021 it was 6.1

Q3 2020 real GDP was +34.9%.
Q4 2020 real GDP was +4.6%.

First, Reagan had nothing to do with the fall of the USSR,

Hilarious!

and our leaders were completely caught off guard by its collapse.

Reagan pressured them on all fronts. It worked quicker than we had hoped.

Nothing to with Reagan at all.

Our booming economy, our deal with the Saudis to drop oil prices and our massive military buildup showed the Soviets they couldn't compete with their shitty economy.

Compared to Carter's stagflation and sweaters, because energy was expensive.
The Iranian hostage crisis showed weakness and less than 2 months later, the Soviets invaded Afghanistan.

LOL!
It was the West's materialism and consumer goods envied by Soviet citizens, Levi's and electronic goodies, coupled with the economics of occupying Afghanistan, that led to the break up of of the Union under GHWB.

Raygun's deal with the Saudis crippled the US Oil Patch. Especially hard hit was the US Exploration field.

Carter inherited Stagflation from Nixon and he tried to make us energy independent from that Persian Gulf Crack. Big Oil has demonized him every since. He was a man ahead of his time. He urged Congress to decriminalize Cannabis and the rabid right went wild........His policy of Detente was a failure and he reversed course and gave us the Carter Doctrine,. which is still used to justify our interventions in the ME. He also started the development of the RDF in response to the crisis in Iran, because we had no rapid deployment force to respond to rapidly evolving situations.

When the West can outspend you on the military and still have plenty of consumer goods,
your slaves...err...comrades will eventually notice.

Carter was weak.

Why did you skip Q1 and Q2? The longer term graphs show it as a spike in 2020. But it doesn't show the other effects on the economy from oil and gas prices, the price of lumber in new houses and more importantly, a hoarding of toilet paper! All caused by the Covid Bubble of 2020. Not the so called war on oil, or any of the other conspiracy theorys the Neo-GOP propagates blaming Biden.

Biden didn't inherit Q1 and Q2.

Reagan's stupid joke almost triggered a nuclear holocaust because one Russian command took it seriously and went on high alert.
Not really. Reagan believed the mike was dead. The Soviets did find out he said it and were on alert. But it took them all of 20 minutes to learn he said it on a dead mike in jest.

I remember him. Wasn't he the guy in Bedtime For Bonzo? :uhh:

Well, Ronny had a knack for speaking, much like Obumma, a performance art that I had hoped would rub off a little on Trump in the intervening years but it hasn't. If anything, Trump's public speaking has deteriorated over what it once was back in 2016, etc. Back then, Trump was sharper, wittier, but he has softened and blurred a lot in recent years. Trump has had the focus whipped out of him by years and years of weaponized lawfare used against him.

Reagan understood diplomacy, engaging your enemy by disarming them with tact and humor--- a victimless action. Reagan was the Johnny Carson of politics. Trump is more like the David Letterman of politics, sooner or later, you just know that Trump will victimize someone with his humor, or at the very least, use it to direct flattery and praise for himself. Mind you, it is usually praise that would be lavished on him by an adoring media if he were a democrat, so I kinda let him skate a little bit.

But as to Reagan being loved, everyone loved him except the GOP, the GOP Party hated him and many in the GOP (much like Trump) fought his nomination, but Ronny was just too popular.
I was a new convert to the GOP at the time and never heard anybody say what you said, that the GOP hated this wonderful 2 term president.

We now have Star Wars operational thanks to Reagan. Reagan recovered our faded Military and this was persuasive to the Kremlin. What about Grenada, where he rescued students? After Carter, who I had voted for earlier, Reagan was a smile on my face and my deep admiration. Reagan was this nation's finest all time President and it's not a close call.
Some historians don't rate him highest but notice they are loyal Democrats.

I voted for Reagan twice, because I was 18 and didn't know any better.

Since then, I have to evaluate the damage he's done.

1) He made "Borrow and Spend" acceptable by cutting taxes on the rich. If you want someone to blame for our 30 trillion deficit, thank Reagan.

2) He gave the green light to union-busting that has demolished the middle class in this country.

3) He ramped up the policy of funding "Freedom Fighters" to annoy Soviet allied regimes, like the Mujahedin in Afghanistan (which later morphed into the Taliban and Al Qaeda) and the Contras in Nicaragua (which made big money by flooding our streets with crack cocaine).

4) He engaged in the kind of reckless deregulation that led to the 1990 S&L Crisis and eventually the 2008 crash.

But he was a damned sight better than Trump. The problem is, of course, that the policies he pursued would be blasphemy to the Orange Cult.

  • He gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants.
  • He appointed moderates to the Supreme Court
  • He supported the Brady Bill
  • He raised taxes when it was clear that Supply Side wasn't working (which is why Bush had to do his "Read my Lips" pledge that he broke.

So why is he well-regarded today by Republicans?

Because he's the only Republican in the last 50 years who wasn't voted out of office (Trump, Bush, Ford), put us into a recession at the end of the term (Trump, Bush-43, Bush-41, Ford, Nixon), or was impeached (Trump, Nixon).
Reagan is your smartest all time vote.
Kennedy massively cut taxes for the rich. And he was rich.

So what is wrong with cutting taxes for the rich? Reagan and Trump cut taxes for all citizens.

Study the charts next time you show hate for Reagan. Our economy was awful under Carter and of course spending by Reagan was adding to the debt. About $$200 billion worth and for that we got a better military, and the Soviets were sent packing. Democrats today want amnesty for millions and so do you so why did you complain that Reagan did it? He tried the Democrat solution and for that we got overrun by illegal aliens, who you like so much.

The Savings and loan crash happened when Carter was president.
I once used Savings and loans to fund home loans and Carter wiped them out.

One union was busted by Reagan. And as a former Union boss, he pulled out all stops trying to not do that to the ATC union. Not all of the union stayed out on strike and those were valuable to me as a pilot at the time. Reagan saw the union as putting a stop to all air travel. And what makes you like the union?

A Texas Congressman got the Freedom fighters in Afghanistan funded so they could defeat the Soviets. Why are you a fan of the Soviets?

You load so much bullshit on this topic it will take longer to show you don't have facts.

I was then a Real Estate Broker who in 1980 got my pilot's license. The ATC is valuable to more than pilots; it is valuable to this entire nation. It is there for safety. For Safety to go on strike is nuts.

By the way, I also had an ATC employee as a client, and he used me to buy his home. HE refused to go on strike and told me it was nuts to strike. I knew his income and it was enormous and the flaw I noticed he worked under was not income, it was strange schedules he had to work. That more than likely was corrected.

Well, it was not widely admitted back then, this is only a point that has come out in discussion in more recent years by insiders who were deep in the party back then and political historians.

We now have Star Wars operational thanks to Reagan.
I know just what Reagan did and Stars Wars was not one of them. It was technologically infeasible back then, just an idea to scare Russia but the idea has stuck and Trump is now bringing it to fruition. That said, Reagan was my favorite president in my lifetime until Trump came along, I just wish Trump had more of Reagan's charm, tact, and statesmanship.
