Um, Reagan’s SDI is what we know call the Iron Dome in Israel. Every anti missile ordinance we have is a result of that initiative.

Israel is a vastly different situation...Nowhere near the square mileage to try and protect.


The Reagan orbital SDI would be much more practical, if it were a platform for, say, a particle beam directed energy weapon.

Even so, the attacks in the war of the Current Year™ will be cyber, psyop, biological (COVID), and coordinated terror attacks a-la Oct7....Aircraft carriers, B-52s, and ICBMs are useless in such scenarios.

You would aim to protect large urban areas, which would be targets of mass drone/missile attacks.

I can understand your viewpoint .. but the system may not be as complex and difficult to implement as many may think . it could be something like what Israel has .. a missile defense system where defenses are strategically placed every few hundred miles on the coast.. remember we are half a world away from the enemies that Israels Iron Dome system defends against .. we would have ample warning if missiles were launched .. so yes an Iron Dome for the US to protect against long and short range missile attacks is very plausible ..

It only stops about half of the ballistic missiles and mortar shells.
It could not stop anything with thrust, wings, or movable navigation systems.

Golden Dome not only would be illegal since it would put weapons into space, but would be very foolish because what goes up must come down.

The point being if neither Russia or us have an intent to launch first, you don't need an ABM system.
The only point of an ABM system is if you do intend to launch first.

Golden Dome is NOT at all like Iron Dome, and is intended to be stationed in space, not the ground.
