I would suggest that if it is so necessary to suggest that a character has a same-sex partner, the story is probably not one I would want any child of mine exposed to, it my taxes paying to put in the schools.So is it unnecessary to say a character has opposite sex marriage partner? That logic works either way.
My parents (both teachers) monitored the reading assignments my brothers and I received all the way through our public school educations. I don’t remember them ever stopping us from reading anything, but they made sure they knew what we were being exposed to.
