Lawsuit: Michigan teacher tried to force Palestinian American student to stand for Pledge

No one ever questioned it, not even the teacher; it is the content of her exercise of free speech that people find offensive.
It is offensive but that is why the Constitution should protect her, because when it protects the most offensive, it protects all of us.

The Constitution does not protect her from the repercussions of her stunt. She chose to offend the teach and the other students and then to take it further by filing a lawsuit.

That students and a teacher were offended by her not standing does not negate her Constitutional right to express her religious freedoms.

You keep bring up the same point over and over and the courts have long maintained the right of religion. They can all talk and get upset but that is all they can do. You can’t arbitrarily negate one’s religious views because you don’t agree with them. That has been tried and failed in the courts many many times.

You continue to make this same argument but no one, not even the teacher, has questioned her Constitutional right to refuse to stand for the Pledge, so I am not sure what point you are trying to make.

It is the content of her "free speech" I am addressing. This is a Palestinian student rejecting America because it is not supporting Palestinians terrorists who started and sustain the war in Gaza. It is certainly her Constitutional right to do so, but terrorism is indelibly linked to Islam in the American mind, especially Palestinian terrorism at this time, so the support of her family and Arab American organizations for this entirely frivolous lawsuit must raise some national security concerns.

This is not beliefs, but about actions, and no one has questioned her right to free speech, not even her teacher, but now that she has made such a point of sharing her dislike for America and her disrespect for the beliefs of other students, she will be judged on that dislike for America and her disrespect for the other students in the class, who also have the right to express their opinions.

Moreover, when a 14 year old makes such a spectacle of herself, one must wonder if she comes from a family that shares her dislike of America and the fact that Arab American organizations support this dislike of America is certainly grounds for examining whether these people who dislike America so much are a security risk.
I'm sorry, this is abject nonsense. A student CANNOT be required to recite the pledge of allegiance. A student CANNOT be disciplined in any way for failing to do so. This is settled law, it has been settled since 1943. The teacher should be fired, and bankrupted.

Tough shit.

Even Before you were a Chinese stooge . you were a Jew hater generally from way back, been here a long time and with you and people like you it's Jews generally.... Spare me your bull Swalwell and historical China has no relationship to the Communist Chinese government of today May starved to death 40 to 50 million of own people in the name of your communist benefactors

You really should take the time to proofread before you post angrily, J'Roids.

Most Chinese will tell you that the Great Leap Forward was a combination of errors. (They won't criticize Mao, personally, just like Americans are loath to criticize George Washington for anything bad that followed.)

But to the point, you would be screaming your head off if a teacher was teaching kids an anti-Zionist message in the classroom, and you know it.

You don't even like College students discussing that stuff.

A 14 year old sitting for a pledge of allegiance is not a national security issue.

You must be reading about a different case. In this case no one tried to force the girl to stand and no one threatened to punish her for not standing. The teacher, inappropriately I agree, asked her why she objected to the Pledge and tried to persuade her to change her mind, and now she is suing the teacher claiming the event, which she, the student, initiated, was so traumatic she cannot function well.

A Palestinian student rejecting America because it isn't supporting the Palestinian terrorists who started this war and are sustaining it must have known how deeply offensive her actions would have been to other students and now she is suffering social isolation because of her indifference to the feelings of other students.

The lawsuit is clearly frivolous and the support it has garnered among Arab American organization suggests national security issues should be looked at among Arab Americans in Michigan and perhaps Minnesota.

You're stupid. Or you're lying. Which is it?

You're demented thinking on full display there's no need to add anything to that stupidity..,.. Joey Swalwell compares Mao Zedong, a mass murdering, psychopath who purposely starved to death 40 to 50 million of his own people to George Washington. He been trained well by the CCP

From the articles first paragraph:
claiming in federal court that the educator violated the student's First Amendment right by attempting to force the student to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The East Middle School teacher, Carissa Soranno, according to the lawsuit, allegedly told the studentclaiming in federal court that the educator violated the student's First Amendment right by attempting to force the student to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The East Middle School teacher, Carissa Soranno, according to the lawsuit, allegedly told the student, “Since you live in this country and enjoy its freedom, if you don’t like it, you should go back to your country.”

The allegation is that the teacher attempted to force her to stand but she clearly, but there were no threats made and no punishments doled out, so clearly force was the wrong word, but without alleging force, there is no lawsuit.

We shall see, won’t we.

Nope, that's how the Chinese see him, even if they don't care for their current government.

My wife was born during the Great Leap Forward, lived as a child through the Cultural Revolution (where her father was denounced and had to move the family from Manchuria to Sichuan), and she left largely because she couldn't practice her religion in peace.

But she still has high regard for Mao, as most Chinese do. He's the one who reunited the country, defeated the Fascist Nationalists and the warlords, and made China a player on the world stage.

Now, if you want to talk about murdering and oppressing people, let's talk about what Geo. Washington and his successors did to the slaves and Native Americans.

We are only now starting to deconstruct Washington as a flawed political figure.

Here's a thing. One of the myths we were taught about George is that he had "Wooden Teeth". It's a quaint little myth like Chopping down the Cherry Tree or throwing a dollar across the Potomac (or maybe it was the Rappahannock).

The reality is far darker. George did have dentures. Made up of teeth extracted from SLAVES.

Your a clown... Not a serious person to even discuss anything with because you've been corrupted..this is your national anthem Swalwell..

Would you be saying that to a teacher who told a little Jewish kid not to wear his Yamulke?
Nobody told that girl not to worry her hijab you fraud and Jews couldn't really wear it walking down the streets in Dearborn without being attacked..

Your concession is duly noted.

You just aren't very good at this, are you?

Nobody told that girl not to worry her hijab you fraud and Jews couldn't really wear walking down the streets in Dearborn without being attacked..

Did all the scary Arabs scare you, little fellow?

How would they know you are a Jew if you didn't advertise it?

This is what always amuses me about people like you and Lisa who scream about how Jews are being picked on.

If we stuck either one of you in a crowd of other white people, they wouldn't be able to pick you out.
