Lawsuit: Michigan teacher tried to force Palestinian American student to stand for Pledge

Your ignorance of the Middle Kingdom aside, you need to make up your mind. (I watch quite a lot of Chinese media with the Mrs. It's a lot more like our media than you think it is.)

You should be for free speech or against it. Being just for free speech you like isn't free speech, it's bias confirmation.

here's the thing.

I look at the Palestinian point of view. They hate the Israelis because they stole their land. I get that. I can relate to it.

I look at the Zionist point of view. They stole Palestine beause a book of Bronze Age superstitions told them a magic sky pixie promised them that land, and because they are largely unable to live in peace with their fellow Europeans.

Sorry, I don't get that at all.
Even Before you were a Chinese stooge . you were a Jew hater generally from way back, been here a long time and with you and people like you it's Jews generally.... Spare me your bull Swalwell and historical China has no relationship to the Communist Chinese government of today May starved to death 40 to 50 million of own people in the name of your communist benefactors

Wrong.
The student is correct, that Israel is the illegal terrorist nation stolen from the indigenous Palestinians.
Indigenous Palestinians? No such things they are arabs and have said as much.
Way back on March 31, 1977, the Dutch newspaper Trouw published an interview with Palestine Liberation Organization executive committee member Zahir Muhsein. Here's what he said:
The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct "Palestinian people" to oppose Zionism.

Jews are the only indigenous people that leftists hate

Hogwash, there are no "Palestinian" children.

Palestinian doesn't exist

Talking to you is like talking to Bibi, Donald and any other Zionist. Reason and history do not work.

I asked you to show me a map that has a nation called Palestine.

Either do it or sit down

‘A Palestinian American student in Michigan is suing a middle school teacher and Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, claiming in federal court that the educator violated the student's First Amendment right by attempting to force the student to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The East Middle School teacher, Carissa Soranno, according to the lawsuit, allegedly told the student, “Since you live in this country and enjoy its freedom, if you don’t like it, you should go back to your country.”

The student, 14, is referred to as D.K. in the suit and is represented in the claim in U.S. District Court in Detroit by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan and Arab American Civil Rights League. The student did not want to stand for the pledge because she believes the U.S. government has supported Israel in the Israel-Hamas war that has devastated Gaza and left thousands dead, according to the claim.

The suit, filed June 25, asks for a judgment that finds the educator's actions unconstitutional and awards damages, claiming Soranno's actions inflicted emotional distress on the student. A spokesperson for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network. Soranno did not answer a voicemail left by a reporter at a phone number associated with her name.

"The right to freely speak — or not speak — is a form of protest that is fundamental to a well-functioning democracy — even when its exercise creates controversy or makes others uncomfortable," wrote Bonitsu Kitaba, interim legal director for the ACLU of Michigan, in a news release.’

West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette (1943): students can’t be compelled to say the Pledge of Allegiance in public school.
Of course, the student will probably win the lawsuit, but refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance is a comprehensive rejection of American culture and system of government, which might legitimately raise security concerns about the student and her family as well as the greater Arab American community which seems to support her rejection of America. The girl is only 14 so perhaps she needs time to refine her protest about the war in Gaza, but that the larger Arab American community supports this comprehensive rejection of American culture and system of government is worrisome.

Because family and friends are here and I'm too damn old to leave. I'm curious to be here for the shit show when the government implodes.
And, when that doesn’t happen, then what? You’ll no doubt try to find something else that isn’t just the way you want it, to ***** about

This is a violation of a citizen’s right of free speech and freedom of religion, this is absolutely uncon and the courts have supported the religious right and freedom.

This is gibberish.

Not in your tortured mind, no.
interesting retort, mr. pilot-----what does the word "Palestine" or "Palestinian" mean
to you? In my childhood I thought it was a Hebrew word. The only people who
seemed to use it were jews except when someone like you yelled at a jew "GO BACK TO PALESTINE" Historically----well I have always had a thing for OLD magazines and books---
probably because that is what was available to me----"PALESTINIAN" always meant a jew
living in "the land of israel"-----then SUDDENLY things changed sometime circa 1970---
PALESTINIANS became arabs. Over time "PALESTINIAN" became a "WHOLE CULTURE"
Today there are "PALESTINIAN COOKBOOKS"-----About 40 (?) years ago I was in a remote
broken down part of New York City----there were abandoned buildings---just about
no people. I saw a building with a whole bunch of Hebrew letters painted on the side--
kinda faded. I was curious and worked out THE WORDS (an exercise in phonetics)
It said "Palestinian Restaurant" ---also noted was 1922. of course also kosher----
In 1922 "palestinian" had nothing to do with arabs. THUS the confusion over the
term

It is an absolute right to practice a religion, you can infer what you want but this country was built for free speech, free press and religious freedom.

in this land we have some very basic rules of etiquette. Most children learn them at home. ---
some kids do not and some are TAUGHT that it is really cool to spit in the salad bowl.
Children in school who do not learn basic etiquette at home become the responsibility of
RESPONSIBLE TEACHERS

Here's a thought. Let the ***** disrespect the country all she wants, but to stay out of trouble ignore her biased hatred. Get even by giving her a failing grade for the rest of the year.
