Lawsuit: Michigan teacher tried to force Palestinian American student to stand for Pledge

in this land we have some very basic rules of etiquette. Most children learn them at home. ---
some kids do not and some are TAUGHT that it is really cool to spit in the salad bowl.
Children in school who do not learn basic etiquette at home become the responsibility of
RESPONSIBLE TEACHERS
Freedoms are guaranteed in our constitution, it has nothing to do with etiquette. If a person chooses not to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance, then their proper etiquette is to stay sitting quietly, or standing quietly whichever they prefer. What is not proper is to force someone to give up their freedoms, that is not proper etiquette and violates our Constitutional freedoms.

No. A SACRED moment observed by a GROUP in which an individual participates MUST
be respected. At the VERY LEAST the kid should STAND. I live in a diverse city. I can
entertain you with lots of examples of BREACH OF ETIQUETTE by little demonstrations
in which I COULD engage to reveal disdain for this or that religion or culture manifesting
publicly -----want some suggestions? I have several copies of the koran----want a few
pages for use with your pooper scooper?

The USSC has ruled many times that forcing a person to violate their religious freedoms is unconstitutional. Our Constitution is of greater importance than etiquette.

sitting when etiquette demands standing is a "religious freedom" I mentioned the korans
in my possession. Would using the pages as pooper scoopers violate MY RELIGIOUS
FREEDOM? What do you think of flag burnings?-----

I hate the burning of the US flags it is deplorable but if you buy a flag and you want to burn it, it is your right as a US citizen which is ironic to me.

If you buy a Koran and want to use the Koran to scoop poop that is your right as a the owner. Disgusting but fine.

Over time, etiquette, customs change, but our Constitution stays the same. We have to protect the freedoms in the Constitution, that allows everyone to be free.

We start making decisions based on etiquette we could all lose our freedoms.

It is an absolute right to practice a religion, you can infer what you want but this country was built for free speech, free press and religious freedom.
Absolutely, free speech, but what you say when exercising your right to free speech identifies you to others, in this case as some one who rejects America.

You are allowed to believe and think what you want in America, that is not a crime. They have a right as an American citizen, that is protected. You are free to think of that person as you will, that is also protected.

We are not allowed to persecute people for their thoughts and beliefs. That is guaranteed in our Constitution.

We are not talking about thoughts here; we are talking about actions. The girl refused to stand when the Pledge was being recited, symbolically rejecting America and pointedly disrespecting her classmates, who may now exercise their right to free speech by showing her the same discourtesy, all perfectly legitimate according to you. She felt no need to respect the believes of her classmates, so why would they want to show respect for her beliefs. She is not the victim; she is the aggressor here.

She has every right to sit, there is nothing illegal, nothing wrong with her sitting. The rest of the class is free to believe what they want, but the school cannot punish her for practicing her religious freedoms.

The teacher by trying to enforce her beliefs on the student, violated the students rights. Plenty of Supreme Court cases to back the students Constitutional right to practice her freedoms.

RIGHT ----using a koran as pooper scooper is a gross breach of etiquette no matter
how I feel about the koran on RELIGIOUS ISSUES----so you are convinced I have a
RIGHT to so use my copies of the koran which I DO OWN and would advocate
the arrest of anyone who tries to stop me or assaults me? (PS I am walking distance
from a few storefront mosques)

Using your Koran as a pooper scooper is probably poor etiquette but it is protected under the Constitution. You could use a Bible, it doesn’t matter, it is a protected freedom in America. It is absolutely against the law to deny a person of their freedoms. The Supreme Court is pretty clear on these freedoms.

I have several copies of the koran and live near some mosques----would you like to test
your theory? As to the flag thing---In Iran they like to place the Israeli flag --'star of
david' up on the ground have crowds walk on it The flag of Saudi arabia has the idiot
"shahada" lines on one side------If I buy will you walk on it ----some friday morn in front
of a mosque?

Test what theory, it isn’t a theory, it’s laws. I am saying it is legal, and it is illegal to physically harm another over it. Pretty simple, I am not inclined to do any of it because to me it doesn’t matter, I am state laws and facts.

This is not beliefs, but about actions, and no one has questioned her right to free speech, not even her teacher, but now that she has made such a point of sharing her dislike for America and her disrespect for the beliefs of other students, she will be judged on that dislike for America and her disrespect for the other students in the class, who also have the right to express their opinions.

Moreover, when a 14 year old makes such a spectacle of herself, one must wonder if she comes from a family that shares her dislike of America and the fact that Arab American organizations support this dislike of America is certainly grounds for examining whether these people who dislike America so much are a security risk.

That’s fine, don’t like her, she has the right.
