I think we already see that no one questioned the girl's right to say, **** you, to America, they questioned her judgement in doing so, and clearly they were right because according to the lawsuit she is now suffering from self imposed social isolation.

How could this have happened? How could she have misjudged the reaction to her little stunt so badly that she ended up ostracizing herself to the point that she is now having trouble functioning? The likely explanation is that she lives in an environment so anti American that she couldn't conceive of people responding so negatively to her gesture. If true, this raises national security concerns about the Arab American community in Michigan.

I’m saying we will find out when the court case concludes, my guess is there will be a settlement and they can afford to move away from an area that does not respect freedom of expression.

Your previous post suggested you were completely ignorant of constitutional principles, and that's why I speculated (wrongly) that you had not taken the same oath I did. Have you forgotten that oath, or are you just willing to look the other way for political expediency? Nobody can be forced lawfully to recite the pledge of allegiance, and that's not rocket science. Do you defend the USC all the time, or just when you want to?

I never said that the student should be forced to recite the pledge.. I believe that’s settled law, though I disagree with it.

No I don't think the pledge is harmful, but having been crafted by the Knights of Columbus during Ike's time, it has a Christian flavor and overtones, and even though I consider Ike to be one of the good guys, it clearly violates the spirit of the First Amendment, that the federal government must remain neutral in religious matters. Those not of the Christian faith might be offended by being forced to recite it, just as a Christian would be offended by being forced to recite some pledge to other religions.

If the government had remained neutral there would be no controversy.
