Lawsuit: Michigan teacher tried to force Palestinian American student to stand for Pledge

Getting paddle is not beating , you understand?.... That's the same attitude that says parents can't spank their kids because that's abuse 🙄 ....like I said , you have no common sense and your week.... You dont get respected by being weak Joe Biden is a prime example of that
My views are not important in this matter. You apparently have no respect for law and order. I personally did not want to lose my means of earning a living to justify your Nazi views. I hesitated to call it that, but that is what you remind me of!

I'm a Jewish Nazi you idiot... If You actually had any common sense you could see from my screen Avatar and the Hebrew name that I was Jewish... The Nazis are the one are scream and kill the Jews and from the river to the Sea what this has been brainwashed with and . you're the one who has no respect for order because you allow students to rule the classroom... As an educator have you spoken out against the transgender agenda and the mutilation of children? ... doubtful

I am sorry, but you are giving Jews a bad name. I told you that I hesitated, but you harbor some very fascist views and are just as bigoted as anti-Semites apparently when it comes to obeying the law.

I am no longer an educator and it was never required as it was never an issue when I was teaching. As I said, if you could read for comprehension, I retired in 2018.

‘A Palestinian American student in Michigan is suing a middle school teacher and Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, claiming in federal court that the educator violated the student's First Amendment right by attempting to force the student to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance. The East Middle School teacher, Carissa Soranno, according to the lawsuit, allegedly told the student, “Since you live in this country and enjoy its freedom, if you don’t like it, you should go back to your country.”

The student, 14, is referred to as D.K. in the suit and is represented in the claim in U.S. District Court in Detroit by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Michigan and Arab American Civil Rights League. The student did not want to stand for the pledge because she believes the U.S. government has supported Israel in the Israel-Hamas war that has devastated Gaza and left thousands dead, according to the claim.

The suit, filed June 25, asks for a judgment that finds the educator's actions unconstitutional and awards damages, claiming Soranno's actions inflicted emotional distress on the student. A spokesperson for Plymouth-Canton Community Schools did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network. Soranno did not answer a voicemail left by a reporter at a phone number associated with her name.

"The right to freely speak — or not speak — is a form of protest that is fundamental to a well-functioning democracy — even when its exercise creates controversy or makes others uncomfortable," wrote Bonitsu Kitaba, interim legal director for the ACLU of Michigan, in a news release.’

West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette (1943): students can’t be compelled to say the Pledge of Allegiance in public school.
Oh my gosh. Fire the teacher, but they are asking for "damages". Why do I get the feeling they are about to award this kid a multi million dollar lawsuit because he got his feelings hurt?

Someone might think you are "undesirable"... you should be careful what you wish for.
No doubt.

The Democrats and the media, for example.

I had a copy of the flag sewn by Betsy Ross on my classroom wall, which I have since learned is a symbol of undesireable white supremacy, according the media. According to the Democrats once in charge of the FBI, Catholics who attend traditional Latin Mass are undesireable extremists. I'm not Catholic, but I have a feeling my Baptist background could land have landed me on a similar list. Baptists don't even allow women preachers, much less transgender lesbian preachers.

I could go on and on, obviously.

Yes, I was and could again be an "undesireable" in the eyes of those in power. Which is why we must never allow Democrats to return to power unless they make significant changes, including apologizing and ridding themselves of their worst elements.

yet according to the Left, students can and should be compelled to sit and listen to chicks with dicks read them stories?

I know what works .... Education in this country has takin a nose dive... lf S*** ain't working you do something else... School isn't for making political statements for political experiments they're for learning Reading writing and arithmetic. The fact that you aren't outraged by the state of education in this country... Just tells me you don't give a crap

Teachers are coercing students into life changing medical castration without parental permission and the left makes a federal case about a Palestinian student who disrespected the Pledge of Allegiance. How does it work for a teacher to "attempt" to force a student to stand when there is no allegation of assault?

Never heard that. I know the Gadsen Flag has been co-opted by extremists.

(Also, the story that Betsy Ross created the American flag has been discredited by historians. You might as well claim you have the hatchet that George Washington cut down the cherry tree with.)

I grew up with those people. Um, yeah, Catholics who are that into it are kind of scary, even to other Catholics. They're the kind who will plant bombs at family planning clinics.

Um, no, inclusion isn't "undesirable", but bigotry is. Happy to have straightened that out for you.

Fox news who you promote all Republicans watch for their propaganda just cut off a Country and western entertainer singing great to move to their 9 a.m. programming. He was almost finished the song. This is a reason why many Republican voters are not Fox groupies as you push.

Thanks for proving my point. Getting rid of undesireables does not put me at risk of being also labeled undesireable. Im already labeled undesireable by Democrats and "not Democrats" so whats the diff.

Um, because Democrats aren't bending the law to deport you clowns.

In fact, even storming the capitol most of you got wrist slaps.

The teacher has no right to compel the student to say the Pledge. They are in the wrong. The administrators are in the wrong for not enforcing the rules on the teacher. This is taught in Educational Leadership 101 at every school with a Masters program for administrators. I know because I was an assistant principal of a high school with 3600 students.
As a former school board member for many years , many years ago, i can attest to every last word of the Admiral's. As a teacher you do not infringe your own views on issues like this. Of course i would like the student to stand, but we cannot force the issue. Thats just the way it has to be.

Suit should be tossed

Ridiculous

Waste of time

No rights were infringed

It should not be forced. That's 1st Amendment.
However, time should be allotted for it and it should be done every morning of K-12 school over the P.A.
Hope that helps! :D
