They were not reacting to simply carrying a rifle there were others open carrying and many protestors who were armed and firing.

In a video I seen where a grocery bag was thrown containing a heavy object.

Dr. Kelley indicated that Rosenbaum had a gunshot wound to the right groin which fractured his pelvis, a gunshot wound to the back which perforated his right lung and liver, a gunshot wound to the left hand, a superficial gunshot wound to his lateral left thigh, and a graze gunshot wound to the right side of his forehead.​

It does but the law limits those means to be no greater than a force necessary to stop the threat. Shooting someone in the back who is face down is excessive of what the law permits and transitions from self-defense to murder.

It's not reasonable to shoot someone in the back who is face down who is no longer a threat.

And Rittenhouse had a reasonable means to escape while Rosenbaum was face down before being shot in the back.
