Because the statutes say he can.

...

“Those statutes are general in their text and application. But Mr. Trump’s documents are covered by a specific statute, the Presidential Records Act of 1978,” they said, adding that a Supreme Court decision in 1974 affirms their argument. “The former president’s rights under the [Presidential Records Act] trump any application of the laws the FBI warrant cites.”

That 1978 law “lays out detailed requirements for how the archivist is to administer the records, handle privilege claims, make the records public, and impose restrictions on access,” they added. “Notably, it doesn’t address the process by which a former president’s records are physically to be turned over to the archivist, or set any deadline, leaving this matter to be negotiated between the archivist and the former president.”

The two wrote that once the DOJ and FBI were satisfied after Trump agreed to their additional padlock to be installed on the Mar-a-Lago storage room where the former president kept the documents, the two agencies should have “sought a less intrusive” way to see the documents than a search warrant and an FBI raid.

It probably was about high crimes from Hillary and Obama.

Doubtful. We both know that if trump had evidence of anything wrong about either Hillary or Obama, he would have released it long ago. Delayed gratification isn't something trump-o is capable of.

Who knows, maybe he was waiting for the republican Senate and the House. No sense doing without a majority,
it just gets swept under the rug. :smoke:

Funny how carl didn't mention that EVERY PRESIDENT takes documents. The mighty obama took 3 million pages...should the FBI go storm his house at gun point?

Desperate parties do desperate things.
It's an election year.
He broke the law. The DOJ tried to get him to give up all the classified document for months. One of his lame lawyers even signed a document that says they had given all the documents up. Either she lied or trump led.

Garland is the most careful and by the book AG we have had in years. He knows that he better have a good reason to search Mar a Lugee.

It is more than...."we want the rest of the documents." Someone was or did something terribly dangerous and illegal. Time will tell.

You think Poootin did not have agents or says at Mar a Lugee? And trump set up the table for him.
