Malachi 3

“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the LORD Almighty.
2 But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap.

3 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness,

God refines his people through trials.

He does not forsake them even though it might feel as though he has.

"This is a test, endure this unnecessary shit sandwich for the rest of your days, and if you don't **** it all up with your humanness vulnerabilities, I might reward you greatly on the flipside"

Who wouldn't sign up for some of that!

Yes, God does give us experiences in this life to server a refining fire for our souls. Some however have question that if God is all knowing, all powerful, and all loving, why did he not simply create us to be perfect like himself instead of fallen creatures that need a refiners fire.

Be a mensch in a world full of evil and cowardice, keep G-ds commands and be rewarded.

So, the loving gawd wanted hard lives for his flock?

Seems to fit.

Ineffable, fer shure.

Sorry. That was a bit harsh, even for me.

Some people lean heavy on their faith. I get it.

Life is like the two thieves on the cross dying next to Jesus. Both men were guilty and deserved to be there, and both were suffering and dying. One man looked at Jesus and said, if you be the Son of God get us the **** off this cross!! The second, however, asked Jesus to remember him in paradise and was saved.

Neither man understood why they all 3 had to die and suffer, but one reached out in faith anyway while the other did not.

I'm well aware of the stories.

Thanks.

Many embrace life as a gift. Sometimes it is the harder times that come bearing the greater gifts. Faith is not so much something to lean on, but to go parasailing.

Sure, life is hard.....It's harder when you bank it all on a magic book....Unless you can get in on the grift like the Bakers.

We did **** it up, and we always will.

That's why Jesus had to come, and die.

Lots of history in that Book too. As for magic: if God is God He can do anything, including miracles.

Well if it makes you feel better I guess it's a good thing. :dunno:
Putting stock in feelings fails to meet the grade. Faith is a way of living better, of getting the most out of life.

Coffee makes me "feel better". So does a good workout. So does a sunny day.

This has nothing to do with what makes me "feel better".

Well, rational thought sure does not enter into the equation where religion is concerned. Must be the whole leap of faith thing.

on the contrary I think atheism is completely irrational.

All of this happened for no reason at all, and we are just basically meatbags floating through space.....yet for some reason we have ideas of morals and right/wrong with no one knows why.

Truly, the only people who live like atheists are psychopaths and sociopaths. Everyone else lives as if there's a God whether they own to it or not.

Faith has a foundation, a cornerstone, of logic and rationality. Some reject this.
