The 2016 election lives loudly in everybody right now.

On the Trumpian right, “the polls were wrong before” isn’t merely an observation, it’s a catechism.

And on the anti-Trumpian left, it’s a constant source of anxiety bordering on panic. It’s making a lot of folks a little crazy.

My friend John Podhoretz, conservative editor of Commentary Magazine, pointed this out to me a few months ago. He lives in New York City, surrounded by Upper West Side liberals prone to flights of jangly rage if you suggest that Joe Biden has the race in the bag.

“Don’t jinx it! That’s what people said in 2016!” they shout.

Since then, it’s only gotten worse. The fear that the country could reelect President Trump after so much muchness these last four years is almost an existential dread, manifesting as quick-tempered outrage at anyone or anything that might upset Biden’s trajectory.

BJ - and Jonah is a full blown Anti-Trumper

Speaking only for me, a liberal Democrat on most issues, it's possible that trump can be reelected if and only if he collects 270 or more EC Votes. In that case he will lose the popular vote by by more millions than he did in the 2016 election. Most normal people - and trump is not normal - would be humbled by such a loss.

Looking at the long lines to vote, and already millions of votes have already been cast, it does not require a math genius to see at least 60% of these votes went to Biden.

This just in -
Rye still doesn't know how the US elects it's Presidents.

Also accurate reports indicate that in most places early voting is trending Republican - which surprised even me.

Please post the "accurate reports" you've referenced. My information is empirical, seeing the lines on news broadcasts (ABC, NBC and PBS) I presume most in line for hours are Democratic Voters.

Liberals are wary of 2016 and don’t want a repeat. With two weeks to go, Biden’s numbers are holding while Hillary was slipping. Democrats are pounding the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin. They won’t get caught ignoring them this time.

Meanwhile, Trump is out preaching to the choir of his faithful. A vote he already has locked up. He has allowed his support in the suburbs and is forced to defend Arizona, N Carolina and Georgia.
Trump and his faithful are depending on another Election Day miracle. They have not earned it

We are sorry, but leftist tears are too tasty and salt mining inc. stock has still more way up to go.

Maybe in 2024 it won't be a Trumslide.

Well, first of all they are all wearing masks, R's don't usually do so, also the lines are in urban areas, which are likely college educated voters as well as a diverse group of essential workers.

What I find puzzling is Republicans willing to run from behind expecting another miracle
What miracle? It's logic. Strickly from a logical stance.....
1) Dems can't win without heavy multi-voting/voting support from blacks. This is a truth is every election. Blacks are actually walking away from the dems and don't hate Trump any more than they do Biden. This alone means that the dems won't win.
2) Hispanics are now realizing also that they are better off in a Trump economy where they can make more money working and their wages go up with Trump keeping illegals out. This fact makes winning elections harder on the dems
3) There are no Biden support signs anywhere-----------people of all colors just don't support him so all these people going to vote aren't doing so for biden. They wouldn't waste the energy on him
4) This leaves the dems standby of CHEATING as their only chance. Can Trump stop the cheating----------and do it without have the election declared invalid which allow Pelosi in is the only question.....

O.K. Which we have had now for almost 20 years including under Trump so there is no reason to leave Trump here.

Zero new wars under Trump - first time since Ford

That you have to lie about Trump speaks volumes. Part of the reason you are conditioned by your masters to HATE him is that he doesn't play the game - he was ordered to start a war in Syria, and failed to do so,

Goldberg supports e-verify and visa reforms. Those are clearly conservative positions. Those are not open border positions.

Then vote for him. And you don't define conservative positions.

Now you are just swinging wildly because you have nothing.

Goldberg is a war pig. He seeks to profit by arming both sides - fact. A Bush PNAC Neocon.

I've yet to see any home in the Tri Valley (East Bay, in the SF Bay Area) with any Trump/Pence sign.

That's great but we are still at war for his entire administration so far. We are still wasting trillions of dollars.

Isn’t that Nixon country?

It was in 1960.

With the exception being that nearly all the "never Trumpers" are neocon Bushies...Those people are about as "conservative" (whatever the hell that's supposed to mean anymore) as LBJ.

People would be wise to remember that the never Trump noise level was 10x higher in 2016 and Trump still won. Trump has a LOT more support from the GOP in 2020 then he had in 2016 when a much larger never Trump group supported Hillary. 4 years of 3 SCOTUS nominations, an historic tax cut, staunch 2nd amendment defense has won over many of the 2016 never Trump crowd. The only never Trump people making noise in 2020 are washed up GOP politicians and swamp rats looking for a government job under Biden.

Why did you used to like him? His conservative values?

Well Goldberg is a well known Conservative so it only makes sense he wouldn't support Trump.
Well Goldberg is a well known Conservative neocon....

Fixed that for ya.

Well that is pretty much today's Conservative position. Generally speaking one speaks of a "Neocon" as someone who supports constant interventions elsewhere. We have had that for all 4 years under Trump so they can't disagree there.
Except that Trump has worked to end the interventions....One of the few things that he's done that I fully approve of.

No he hasn't. He has made hollow worthless statements. Statements that the "neocons" simply note that he isn't going to do anything about and he doesn't.

Yes, he has kept us out of worthless wars, the first to do so since carter. Unlike shrub and o, who brought us endless adventures in the desert, arab springs, supporting rebels in syria, etc.
