McCain: Enemy of Israel or All Out Anti-Semite? The Poor Man Institute

The media has paid far too little attention to John McCain’s pledge in April to cut off all aid to Israel. Shortly after McCain issued that promise to completely abandon Israel, the McCain camp was forced to backtrack publicly due to pressure from various campaign advisors. But that was for purely cynical, campaign-related reasons, not due to a change of heart. If elected, there is little doubt that McCain will swiftly implement a clean break with Israel.

In fact, it is the ultimate goal of both sides of the GOP ticket. How can I know this? The evidence is pretty clear.

First, Sarah Palin’s church patronizes preachers from a group that the Anti-Defamation League has claimed targets “Jews for conversion with subterfuge and deception.” Speaking of such preachers, one recently had these charming things to say about the people of Israel:

Brickner [the preacher] also described terrorist attacks on Israelis as God’s “judgment of unbelief” of Jews who haven’t embraced Christianity.

“Judgment is very real and we see it played out on the pages of the newspapers and on the television. It’s very real. When [Brickner's son] was in Jerusalem he was there to witness some of that judgment, some of that conflict, when a Palestinian from East Jerusalem took a bulldozer and went plowing through a score of cars, killing numbers of people. Judgment — you can’t miss it.”

In the past few days, Palin has taken to quoting Westbrook Pegler, a virulent anti-Semite, whose hatred for Jews was so extreme that even the John Birch society found him to be a bit on the extreme side - and it takes a lot to move the anti-Semitism needle with the Birchers.

It’s an odd source because Pegler, who moved further right as his career went on, ended up very, very far out. Frank notes that he talked hopefully of the assassination of Franklin Roosevelt. He was also known for what Philip Roth described as his “casual distaste for Jews,” which had become so evident by the end that he was bounced from the journal of the John Birch Society in 1964 for alleged anti-semitism. According to his obituary, he’d advanced the theory that American Jews of Eastern European descent were “instinctively sympathetic to Communism, however outwardly respectable they appeared.”

Can we afford to ignore these warning signs any longer? Ask John McCain why he wants to cut Israel off entirely. Ask Sarah Palin why she finds inspiration in the words of unrepentant anti-Semites. Ask McCain and Palin if they, too, have a casual distate for Jews, or is it something more serious.

The American people deserve answers.

[UPDATE: Top American Jewish leaders are abandoning the GOP ticket citing Palin's "scary" views. Palin's thinly veiled anti-Semitism, coupled with McCain's hostility to Israel, could very well cost votes in Florida and other key states. (via The Benentron 3000)]

You guys want to use scare tactics and call Obama a Muslim and a socialist and a marxist, and has terrorist connections, I can stoop down to those levels and scare the right just as much as you guys try to scare the left. When you guys are ready to play fair and debate the issues, I'm game. Until then, I'll post garbage politics.

There's a story circulating right now that John McCain is a Fascist Nazi sympathizer and that he supports the KKK.

i thought that was supposed to be part of the radical religious right's core values? which is it?

nope, i think you just want to mold your feces into little balls and play with them. like i said; wash you hands when you're done.

You guys want to vote for a racist anti-semite who hates blacks and Jews and used to be a member of the KKK? Go for it.

John McCain: The only sensible choice for Jews (and all Americans)

The Jewish Defense League has been blogging about the 2008 race for the White House for quite some time, and those who have been reading know where JDL leadership stands on the issue. Others have asked for some clarification, however, so let us be abundantly clear: John McCain is the only sensible choice for sensible Jews (and all Americans who care about the future of our country). . . .

Senator McCain has the experience, ideals and judgment needed to lead the United States during these challenging times that are beset by both domestic and foreign crises. He has served the United States valiantly throughout his life in war and in peace; there is perhaps no man more credentialed than John McCain to ever run for the office in the history of the country. He realizes that a pragmatic policy agenda based upon a renewed commitment to the solidly conservative principles that have always guided this nation since its founding will continue to work into the future - commitments to limited government, low taxation, reasonable regulation, a strong national defense and a reliance on free markets for greater prosperity. McCain recognizes that raising taxes has a negative effect on economic growth and that raising taxes during an economic slump is a recipe for disaster.

McCain also knows that to ensure our macroeconomic security into the future we must tackle crucial problems like our dependence on foreign oil and the run-away Socialist Entitlement schemes that need to be reformed before they bankrupt us due to the impending retirement of the Baby Boomers. There is no question that John McCain takes these domestic economic threats seriously and will have an opportunity to do so if Americans make the right choice on election day. McCain knows all too well the costs of war, so he won't risk American troops unless he is absolutely committed to the task he is asking them to undertake. McCain knows that abandoning the fledgling democracy in Iraq, as his opponent wishes to do, would only serve the interests of America's enemies. John McCain also realizes the transcendent threat of this era - the threat of radical Islam. He recognizes the dire threat it poses to Americans at home and abroad, and to America's allies. To that end, he has made a central theme of his campaign the safety and security of America's only true ally in the Middle East, the state of Israel, and he has vowed that a McCain Administration would not countenance a nuclear Iran and the existential threat that that increasingly all too real scenario would pose to Israel. Importantly, John McCain has also broken rank with the Bush Administration at certain points over the latter's pressure on Israel to act in ways contrary to its own interests. McCain has not come out strongly in favor of the "Road Map" that was so heavily endorsed by the Bush Administration. In truth, he hasn't said too much about that subject, so it's hard to tell precisely where he stands, but based on what we do know of his relationship with Israel it appears that McCain would be far more reticent to back Israel up into a corner and force suicidal concessions as Bush and previous presidents have.

The Official Jewish Defense League Blog - John McCain: The Only Sensible Choice

I hardly think John McCain hates the Jewish people or Israel for that matter and has over the year as a member of the Armed Service committee approved of just about every single arms transfer to that country.

Israel confirmed today that it plans to add at least 50 more F-16's to an already formidable jet fighter fleet, signaling a determination to maintain decisive regional air power superiority even as it pursues peace deals with its Middle Eastern neighbors.

In what would be the largest arms purchase in Israel's history, Prime Minister Ehud Barak has told American officials that his country wants to buy 50 new F-16E fighter-bombers, a $2.5 billion order, with an option to order up to 60 more jets for a further $2 billion. Israel already has more than 250 F-16's, the largest fleet outside the United States.

In a meeting on Friday in the Pentagon, Mr. Barak told Defense Secretary William S. Cohen that Israel had decided to choose the F-16 over the more advanced but costly F-15 in its long-expected fleet expansion. Lockheed Martin, the manufacturer, was informed of Israel's decision ''verbally'' and expects to sign a contract later this year, a company spokesman, Joe Stout, said today.

Israel Will Buy 50 F-16's In Its Biggest Arms Deal Ever - New York Times

These purchases go through the Armed Services committee and without their approval these purchases are not allowed to be completed. So to simply make a blanket statement like that is not true. While it is true that many IDF senior officers do not support McCain because the Bush Administration has been less than supportive to them according to these officers. It is not true that John McCain is somehow unsuportive of the Jewish people.

Gee, did they have their own country, nukes and NATO back then? :eusa_whistle:

Yes, they had their own country. It was called Palestine. Read up on history on how the League of Nations created Palestine as a Jewish National Home. Nukes weren't invented then and NATO wasn't formed yet.

So they only had one of the three. Sort of like having a gun without bullets and a trigger finger. :eusa_whistle:
