NOw let's have a look at that for a moment..
Whjat does that mean?..Does openly gay refer to a person who is known to be gay?
DOes it refer to public displays of affection between two gay people?
If it's the former..Fine. I don't think our young skulls full of mush will be harmed if they know their male or female teacher is a homosexual. In fact it's none of anybody's business with whom an adult sleeps.
If it's the latter...Sorry that kind of thing has no place in the schools.
Teachers as are other professionals are required to sign and abide by morals clauses in their contracts.
As a citizen who pays these people to educate our children, I ask only that they keep their off time actvities to themselves

Clearly the pro-gay agenda people would like nothing better than to achieve official minority status.

In addition to reiterating anti-choice talking points on abortion and backing "traditional marriage," according to the Spartanburg Herald-Journal, the senator went further and "said if someone is openly homosexual, they shouldn't be teaching in the classroom and he holds the same position on an unmarried woman who's sleeping with her boyfriend -- she shouldn't be in the classroom."

Controversy over DeMint's position on this issue first arose in 2004 during a Senate debate, when he was asked whether he agreed with the state party's platform that said openly gay teachers should be barred from teaching public school. DeMint said he agreed with that position because government shouldn't be endorsing certain behaviors.

"(When I said those things,) no one came to my defense," DeMint said on Friday in Spartanburg. "But everyone would come to me and whisper that I shouldn't back down. They don't want government purging their rights and their freedom to religion."

There are so many things wrong with his statements that I don't even know where to begin criticizing them.

Remember.......it's when people start touting their way as more "moral" or "right" than others that problems start, usually with the "more moral" people acting in the worst interests of everyone.

When a United States Senator proclaims Gays and unwed mothers should be excluded from making a living in a noble profession like teaching simply because HE cannot find morality in their circumstances, in spite of what individual Gays and unwed mothers may be, then yes words are offensive. They offend by taking bread off the tables of hard working teachers because of the group they may be in and not as a result of their personal behavior.

Now unless you're against equal justice for all, I think this does indeed close the argument.

You can't legislate bigotry, in spite of the ignorance and stupidity of those who can't see the sin of it.

Whether Left likes it or not( we don't care really) is there are certain limits on everything.
We decide what we want in our communities by a consensus of contemporary standards.
There is right and wrong. There are things that we have the right to find unacceptable. We merely have to tolerate them. That is all that is required.
