The verse is actually Exodus 34:26 in the Tanakh and the word kid is not human kid it's like saying don't cook the little lamb or goat(kid=youngish) in the mother's milk. Indian restaurants cook lamb in cream or yoghurts, Greeks in Tzatziki Sauce (Cucumber Yoghurt) etc.
