James Talarico Says Black Churches Understand Jesus Better than White Churches

Black Churches have always understood Jesus better than White Churches

Church is a celebration of Jesus with singing and dancing and people shouting out praise. People come out happy enjoying the service.

White churches are dull events centered around the pastor. Church is an obligation not a celebration

Good grief. You just comment for attention, time after time

Then why aren't black churches doing more to free the oppressed, heal the sick and feed the hungry

Because many congregations both black and white, don't have the income and resources that the white suburban churches have. There are no "Crystal Cathedrals" in rural America either. Most of our buildings are old, and expensive to heat or maintain.

Our Presbyterian Church was a resource to our community. That was our contribution. We provided office space to charities and NGO's at well below market rents. We also provided free programming space for Girl Guides, Alcoholics Anonymous, and other community "not for profit" groups. Our minister provided free counselling to those who asked. But we had no cash to contribute to the poor, or the sick. Every dollar in the collection plate went into keeping the building open and a minister in the pulpit.

That's why this whole "Republicans give more to charity than Democrats thing is an optical illusion. Republicans donate more to their churches than Democrats. And while church donations are a service to your community, that money is NOT going to the poor or the sick, for the most part. That money is going to pay for the maintenance, utilities, operating expenses and salaries to keep your churches open. It's not going to the poor or the sick, unless you have a very large, and very well off congregation.

I'm under the impression that white people have been the capitalists in the world, generally speaking. The people who build free markets.

What can be more liberating than that?

Ah yes, "Prosperity Christians". Ignoring everything Jesus said about rich people, and the love of money being the root of all evil; that it is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of Heaven; that whatever you have done to the least among you, you have also done to Him.

The right wing MAGA Christians are cheering the abuse of immigrants, and the segregation of minorities. They're refusing to provide health care to pregnant women in crisis, and they're worshiping the hate fuelled criminality of Donald Trump.

I'm with Tallarico. The Bible says that in the end times, the "True Believers" will be deceived by the forces of evil and will turn away from the true path. We see this happening in the USA right now.

No one who is truly living their Christian faith, could ever vote for a criminal like Trump.
I see no segregation attempts..... You talking abortion " health care".....

She says without a hint of irony.

Those who lack self-awareness provide no end of entertainment.

He's absolutely right. When you go to a service full of joy and praise, you come out feeling uplifted. I am often painfully aware that I'm sitting on a hard wooden bench at our church, and look forward to standing up for the next hymn. Our service is straight out of 1955, and it's dull.

One of our nearby churches moved the pews so the people faced one another, not the pulpit, and had people singing modern hymns, accompanied by guitars, with a focus on the good news of the Gospel, and they were packing the place every Sunday.

No I'm talking prenatal care - miscarriages, being turned away from hospitals, for fear the hospital will be charged with providing abortions.
Fake excuse......miscarriages happen....if what you say is true you would think said hospital would get its ass sued off

I agree, but the forces of evil aren't what you think they are.

No one who is truly living their Christian faith, could ever vote for a criminal like Trump.

Given the opposition, of course they could.

Many "white churches" have aggressively sold their soul to a man who is essentially the opposite of the Jesus Christ they pretend to follow. It has damaged families and relationships. It has stripped the church of any claims it may have still had to "morality". Christianity has been set back a long way due to what it has done.

So I guess any criticism is worth at least considering.

Talarico is just reasserting the Democrat Party's hatred for White Christians.
This is the foundation that the Democrat Party is built upon.
White Christians are not welcomed in the Democrat Party.

Mormons? I have to say, I know next to nothing about Mormons as I don't consider them to be Christian

Having said that, it would be foolish for me to say ALL churches have a focus for the poor, as some clearly only have a focus on taking in money. But for you to use this one example and proclaim it represents all of Christianity is just absurd. It would be akin to saying only Black churches know Jesus. But then, that is the party you love, a party of racist and bigoted individuals who smear and defame people you disagree with politically.

So, you do you.

All churches have a focus on keeping their doors open and to do that you have to have money to maintain and operate your buildings. There is a financial crisis for churches both rural and urban in keeping their doors open.

It's not just "one example". I used my congregation as the example because it was so typical of every church I encountered. Those old buildings are EXPENSIVE to operate.

You brought up the issue that Republicans donate more to charity, and I pointed out that those numbers weren't telling the real story of what all those donations were going for.

Yeah I remember that verse in the Bible where Jesus was preaching (teaching) and it was just a bunch of singing and dancing and feel good vibes. Oh wait.

The Democrat Party is so far removed from what it used to be (and should be), it's jaw-dropping.
And disturbing.
And disgusting.

Not really, your boy is a moron and your fellow left posters aren't worth reading. But I get it, another chance to attack white Christians. Eh?

Now run along, you're a bore

How moronic. You need a reading comprehension class, or maybe, you enjoy playing the victim.

You can't claim to be a Christian and cheer for locking immigrant families in concentration camps. That which you have done to the least among you, you have also done to Jesus.

Now if you don't like being called out for your hypocrisy, then stop pretending you're a Christian. Because you sure don't act like one.
