AN Israeli police officer shot himself dead during an airport departure ceremony attended by French President Nicholas Sarkozy – sparking fears of an assassination attempt.

Security forces whisked the French President and his wife Carla Bruni-Sarkozy quickly onto their plane after the shot rang out.

In a panic, Mrs Bruni-Sarkozy rushed up the stairs ahead of her husband, while Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert was also led to safety.

Was this actually a suicide (the official story) or did someone else kill the policeman in a botched assassination attempt?
We probably will never really know the truth.
Was Sarkozy the target or Olmer?
Why is the media practically silent about this?

Maybe the would be assissin was doing a last minute check to see if the gun was loaded...
