The USA declared war onto Imperial Germany, therefore the US allied (Entente) with the others.
Nazi-Germany declared war onto the USA in WWII - and again the USA allied with those fighting against Nazi-Germany

The USA after 1945 made Europe their market - and profited from it immensely.
