Is the US to blame for all of Cuba's ills?

The Cuban government won't allow Americans to trade freely with Cuban citizens.
The Cuban government won't allow Americans to freely invest in Cuban businesses.
This is certainly partly true, but the whole point is to get this to change over time, as has been the case with the Europeans. This is precisely why the U.S. should end the blockade — to put the burden of explaining the CP’s unwillingness to open up more … on the Cuban CP!

What stupid thing to claim since the rest of the world has been trading with Cuba for decades now.

Fact check: US embargo doesn't prevent Cuba from trading with other countries

Excerpt:

The rest of the world has been free to trade with Cuba for the last 46 years, even some trade between America and Cuba exist too.

There is no true blockade anymore.
Wrong again. The US has effectively prevented much of the world from trading with Cuba. It has also sabotaged their economy in many heinous ways.

Get informed. Please.

Toddsterpatriot not only quotes me out of context, but confuses advocating free trade and the basic human rights to travel and support one’s family with … “directly supporting” a particular government. Pathetic.

Give me the list of trading partners from 1960 to 2000.

Well, if all trade and all investment goes thru the commie government, you'd be
supporting the commie government.

Sorry if that was too complex for your simple mind.

Cuba's problem is that it doesn't produce much of anything in demand on the world's markets. It's businesses are poorly run by the party and scarce resources are allocated to the powerful party members, not the needy people. At least Venezuela had oil before the party appointed hacks destroyed the oil business there.

The problem with that is our rapacious oligarchs don’t want to take the chance that communism might succeed.

Sure , by 2019.
But we were not discussing the fact the US has dropped most of the illegal trade sanctions against Cuba since Castro died.
We were discussing how the US used to illegally try to prevent any country from trading with Cuba,

Which is everyone's first amendment right.
You can not legally dictate who anyone does business with in the US, unless there is a declared war.

And the discussion is whether or not our sanctions helped or hurt their situation.

Nobody has been able to argue where it has helped.
sure it has…have you not been paying attention to the people protesting for a new free govt?
