I didn't make any bad choices. I never had any kids, never got married so I didn't have to worry about alimony. After I worked enough lower paying jobs, secured a trade with a promising future. I invested my money in real estate which is helping me out now that I'm retired, just like I planned it.

Where I live we have an 8 cents on every dollar consumption tax. 5 cents goes to the state and 3 cents to the county. We are spending ourselves into a hole which we will eventually be unable to support. Once we can no longer pay the interest on the debt, nobody will lend us anymore money. Furthermore by having a tax we all pay equally, it puts more dogs into the race. People will not be so enthused about government spending anymore. That pressure would force our representatives to quit spending so much on things we really don't have to have.

I never said our unemployment rate is good, I said it's improving; we are in the right direction. We'd have an even lower unemployment rate if these liberal cities and states would contribute to the cause. But they want to do the opposite. Raising taxes on the poor and middle class will not lead to lower government spending. It will lead to more spending as individuals will need more help and more people will need help. Why don't you shut up. No one is deliberately tanking the economy. They are trying to stop the spread of the coronavirus. Developers are moving towards housing for higher income people not more affordable housing. Worth noting that one of the things driving up the cost of housing are tariffs on Canadian lumber. Many people are paying a large part of their income for housing. What is worrisome is the rising number of layoffs. If state and local governments are forced to layoff people that means a higher unemployment rate and less revenue to the government.

Raising taxes on the poor and middle class will not lead to lower government spending. It will lead to more spending as individuals will need more help and more people will need help. Also the lack of affordable housing means that people have less money after paying for their housing. Your solutions are simple minded answers to complex problems.

Lower income people support new government anything since they don't have to pay for it--other people will. So to them, they could care less if we spent 20 trillion a year. It doesn't matter to them.

It would matter if they physically had to pay for all that spending, so of course they would be on the horn with their representatives telling them to cut it out, because they don't want to pay a higher consumption tax.
