Men used to employ chivalry, protection, and providing to women who were kind, agreeable, chaste, and nurturing.

My daughter and daughter-in-law both served in the Army and they volunteered. I served, along with my son and both sons-in-law and we all volunteered. All but my daughter-in-law served in wartime in combat zones. No draft required.

The draft is still able to be enacted in law. So your anecdotes here don't matter. If a major war starts, America can enact the Draft.
