Here is a bit of info. The Roll Rate of a F-5 or T-38 is quicker than even the F-16. I got that little tidbit from a pilot that few both. You had better kill that F-5 fast. If you get into a eyeball to eyeball dogfight with it, you are going to lose.

Not bad for a 50/60s fighter.

The F-5 is still used as as adversary aircraft, the F-5 is much less expensive to fly and in the right hands can sneak right up on a combat flight before they see them if they're not looking for them. They're fast but it takes them longer to attain speed than the more modern fighters and most of our current version fighters were tested and upgraded against the F-5. As for the eyeball to eyeball, the first generation F-16 was made in 74 and they're still being made with many upgrades since then making them much more superior. I've known quite a few pilots who have flown both and prefer the F-16 over the F-5 but I've also known a couple of F-5 "adversary" pilots who claim they'll get in a good initial lick but will ultimately lose in a prolonged dogfight with a well trained F-16 pilot. So basically it's more a personal bias per each pilot. Besides if it ever comes down to it we'll probably worry more about their Mig29s and F-14 Tomcats.
There's a well documented case where on of our Raptor pilots escorting a drone in international airspace flew under a Iranian F-5 who was pursuing the drone, checked out the F-5 payload then "appeared" on the Iranians wing scaring the shit out of him. Not an F-16 but just shows our capabilities compared to theirs, I wouldn't worry too much.

We should worry about it. Not worrying about it allows the little critter to get close. Worry about it and you make it harder.

The F-5 is smaller and has a very small forward look. Meaning, while it isn't a stealth, it's still harder to pick up than more modern V4 fighters. The Mig-29 and the F-14 stand out like a sore thumb.

It's a matter of what they were designed for and personal bias the Mig and F-14 are primarily defensive in design. When I say not to worry doesn't mean to not be on the watch for them because as I stated before we use them as adversary aircraft and out pilots are trained to look for and counteract them.

The Iranians have also added su-25 frogfoots (Russian flying tanks, close support aircraft) and Chinese Super 7s and F-7Ms (a viable replacement for the F-5) to their arsenal, I'd be more concerned about the F-7Ms. One of the key aircraft they're lacking are AWACs a major weakness in their attack and defense capabilities and as France phases out the Mirage 2000s the Iranians are in the market but the Mirage is still no match for the F-16 The f-16 is an air superiority weapon, the Mirage is an interceptor.
Overall our forces are much better equipped and much better trained, not to mention more massive so the best the Iranians could hope to do is try to knock a couple of ours out of the air before being destroyed. It's not just one aircraft vs another it's all they have vs all we have, they have a ways to go.
