Zone1 Intelligent people have doubts RE Jesus

I will settle this argument. I am a Catholic and I'm also the smartest member at this website! So, there was a Jesus. HE was a great man who hated the Boston Celtics!

God is a Laker fan!
Everything you say here is untrue, esp the part about you being the smartest here

THE GOSPEL OF THOMAS

These are the hidden sayings that the living Yeshua spoke and Yehuda Toma the twin recorded.

(1)
And he said,
Whoever discovers what these sayings mean
will not taste death.

(2)
Yeshua said,
Seek and do not stop seeking until you find.
When you find, you will be troubled.
When you are troubled,
you will marvel and rule over all.

(3)
Yeshua said,
If your leaders tell you, “Look, the kingdom is in heaven,”
then the birds of heaven will precede you.
If they say to you, “It’s in the sea,”
then the fish will precede you.
But the kingdom is inside you and it is outside you.
When you know yourselves, then you will be known,
and you will understand that you are children of the living father.
But if you do not know yourselves,
then you dwell in poverty and you are poverty.

Is this the same gospel of Thomas that the Catholic Church declined to add to the New Testament in the 4th century?

The same

Saying 3 alone is one of the reasons it was left out and determined to be heretical

The same

you are talking about the text that is under the number 3?

I don't see what's so bad about that (though kind of skimmed through it)

1st time I've heard of that

probably just another HUGE LIE

Nothing is more lied about than the Catholic Church, which figures, actually.

That's the Entity Satan attacks the most, for what should be obvious reasons

I have heard that the Josephus reference to Jesus is a forgery that was added later. I think it well known.

The Gospel of Thomas - Marvin Meyer - The Nag Hammadi Library

The Gospel of Thomas (also known as the Coptic Gospel of Thomas) is an extra-canonical sayings gospel. It was discovered near Nag Hammadi, Egypt, in 1945 among a group of books known as the Nag Hammadi library. Scholars speculate the works were buried in response to a letter from Bishop Athanasius declaring a strict canon of Christian scripture. Scholars have proposed dates of composition as early as 60 AD and late as 250 AD.

Many scholars have seen it as evidence of the existence of a "Q source" which might have been similar in its form as a collection of sayings of Jesus, without any accounts of his deeds or his life and death, referred to as a sayings gospel.

I have a high IQ

so that is proof that not all intelligent people are ... uh... clueless about Christ.

Also, I was lucky. A good priest told me years ago about the Real Presence. If he had not done that... who knows where I would be now, spiritually...

But maybe my words are wasted. Maybe I am even"casting pearls before swine"?

God knows

HOPE NOT!

"I have a high IQ"

Of course you do, just ask you.

Very true..

But Jesus was no mere carpenter.
He drew followers by the thousands.
He was a leader who would have drawn attention of the Roman occupiers
He was tried and crucified for his efforts.

Yet the Romans did not document it
Jesus' followers were Jews, no different than a high priest having a following. The Romans were not concerned one whit with Jesus and his followers, who posed no threat to the peace of Rome. Jesus was not a political leader and did not attract the attention of the Roman occupiers. His only real interaction with Rome was at his execution that the Jews arrested him for, and that attention was negligible, from the mere handful of Romans involved in the affair. The Romans had no interest in this internecine Jewish conflict, not even Pilate who washed his hands of it.

The Romans scarcely even mention Jesus' contemporary, Joseph Caiaphas, if at all, who had political clout in the empire. Even Josephus dedicates more words to Jesus than he does to Caiaphas.

The Romans had little interest in the Jews. The Jews were a cloistered community whom the Romans generally ignored until the Jewish messianic age when they instigated insurrections against the empire.
