In Texas, Natural Gas and Renewables Expected To Meet Future Energy Needs

The world’s energy mix is undergoing a slow but very real transitional period as energy planners seek to incorporate renewable energies into existing infrastructures at ever increasing rates. As a way to provide a framework for what to expect over the next twenty years, the Texas Clean Energy Coalition (TCEC), in conjunction with the Mitchell Foundation and economists at The Brattle Group, developed a study called Exploring Natural Gas and Renewables in ERCOT Part II: Future Generation Scenarios for Texas, to test energy models based on the best current information regarding energy markets, electric grids, and government policy.

TCEC concluded that ERCOT (Electric Reliability Council of Texas) power systems are “very likely to combine substantial amounts of both renewable energy and gas-fired power, and together can provide all new generation.”

“The economic and environmental attractiveness of these electricity sources, the strong Texas resource base, and the evolution of power markets and systems all point to these energy options as the likely foundation of all new supplies to the ERCOT system in the next several decades ahead.”

While these results are bullish for natural gas and renewables, there is a great deal of information to parse in order to come to an accurate conclusion of where our energy future lies.

And if you set font size to how much of each is expected to meet future needs, it would look like this, except for me giving renewables too much credit here.

Wind currently producing over 9% of the electricity in Texas. And they are building more mills daily. Haven't even started solar yet, and that will grow rapidly once they do. Geothermal has yet to be tapped. All of these have an advantage over the fossil fuels. Once built, you don't have to buy anything else to produce electricity.

How much electricity do they make on calm days? And will the new windmills be any better on calm days?

You buy the fossil fuels to generate your electricity on calm evenings and nights, what with the advantage of solar and wind mills not doing so well on calm evenings and nighttimes.

another outrageous lie, renewable's will never meet any of our needs, each renewable energy idea in california is the biggest in the world, in cost, in size, but not in the amount of energy they produce. Nobod,y even knows the cost, cost is not reported, not , antotal cost per state. California has spent hundreds of billion, and its not enough.

More lies that we must constantly try and disprove but beings how its the Government and the Billion dollar news industry putting these lies in print, we have no way to fight back.

The people of the USA are helpless to fight against the billions the government and media spend propagating lies, especially when so many people just blindly believe everything they can google or read in print.

Actually renewables could meet the world's needs.

All it will take is for all the global warming hobbyists to park their vehicles, tear down their homes for recycling and move into unheated caves where they'll eat uncooked grasses.

Then, when they're all dead, there'll be fewer people so the limited energy renewables can produce will be sufficient for the living. All of 'em.

Them Texans got something else to be proud of now.

Wind Turbines are suffering frequent mechanical problems as well as pre-mature fatigue of the fiberglass turbine blades. Further it Wind Power must have a constant source of power so there is an fossil fuel usage, for electricity as well as maintenance, I would say each wind turbine requires at least 6 barrels of oil a year just in lubrication plus the fuel for the guy who performs this maintenance.

So at the very least you have zero knowledge of Wind Turbines based on this post.

Geothermal, massive maintenance costs, replacing valves, pipes, inspections, drilling the wells, which is at some plants 24/7

But, Old Rock, you know all this, its pointed out to you endlessly, so you either can not remember because of your age, or your just not smart enough to grasp facts, or you just prefer to ignore the truth and lie.

You never buy anything else, except that is a lie, Geothermal, Solar, and Wind Power plants wear out, they get replaced in as little as 10 years, so you do have to buy something else, you buy the replacement in as little as 10 years.

The Green energy replacement plants are over 10,000x's larger than a comparable natural gas power plant, a natural gas power plant will last 50 years or more. There is no comparison, Green Energy is a complete waste of money and extreme amounts of natural resources.

Having experienced blade failures on wind machines I venture that it's only a matter of time before someone is killed by shrapnel from one fragmenting. In California these abominations are built close to highways. Now that raises a terrifying possibility: A fly-away blade could slam into an overloaded bus killing 40+ illegal immigrants on their way to pick peaches. Then what would liberals do? Demand windmills be outlawed for killing their favourite people? Or demand that highways be diverted away from windmills? Or just demand armored busses be provided for all illegals?

Wind Turbines do kill, horrific accidents, a surprising amount. it will take time to come to read all the different stories to find the most recent figures.

Two dead after Dutch turbine fire - Onshore Wind | ReNews - Renewable Energy News

Two service technicians have died following a turbine fire at Deltawind’s 21MW Piet de Wit wind farm near Ooltgensplaat in the Netherlands.

The mechanics, aged 19 and 21, were working on one of 12 Vestas V66-1.75MW units at the site when the fire broke out yesterday afternoon.

Deltawind said it is possible that a short circuit on the unit caused the fire but warned it is awaiting the result of a police report into the incident.

The company said that the team had been on the site to perform scheduled maintenance.

The developer called the loss of the two mechanics, who were working for contractor Bettink Service Team, a “tragic accident”. Both Deltawind and plant owner Promill expressed their sincere condolences to the families of the two mechanics.

All turbines at the site, which is 10 years old, were powered down following the fire.

They've been ordered to omuerta on all blade killings of birds. They check once a year. If they only find 1 bird body beneath a blade, that's it for the year. It skews the truth out of their danger to the extinction of species, but they've almost decimated the osprey populations in some areas, and I believe the reason of bird flu being blamed for migratory songbird deaths is a figment of the gory green spin room machine. Death to all but plantae is the motto of the green killer industry! It's how they empty the US Treasury! Stand aside, whiners! Let the birds and people die!!! But save the green!!!

Yes…and drilling for natural gas and oil is so safe? At what point do humans realize that safety is an illusion, better defined as "safe enough" in nearly all circumstances, be it drilling, producing nuclear power, or changing wind patterns by taking the energy we need out of the movement of local airstreams.
