Okay, so a few posters that have joined this thread have reminded me of the large number of folks who are going to be highly upset all over again if there is an impeachment proceeding. Do we want that bleeding again? Is that worth the price to ensure Trump can't start campaigning for 2024? It's a damned high price. And there's a chance he'll be incarcerated. Think carefully.

What is the price of NOT impeaching Trump. It means that we've said, you can commit high crimes and misdemeanors, such as sedition against the government, and get away with it.

Trump retains the power to pardon everybody who participated in the assault on the Capitol Building. No matter how crazy it sounds, Trump has the power to give blanket pardons, which could actually be a way for a president to pardon himself.

Yes, it's a sh1tty situation, but our politicians prefer to look out for their political futures rather than do the right thing.

The COVID-19 stimulus bills gifted multi-billions of dollars to the nation's 651 billionaires, but average Americans have received only $1800 each. Yes, our politicians look out for their political futures above all else. Their favorite contributors received borrowed cash that increased the federal debt several trillion dollars.

Will trump be impeached? Not likely. It's too risky to many political futures.

I quite easily see Trump being impeached, since it only requires the democratic majority in the house to do so. I'm speculating about whether Trump could be convicted in the 50/50 senate.

Actually is not required by law that the Senate conduct a trial. It is the current Senate rule they do (enacted by the GOP), but legally they could just change the rules.
