If Trump is impeached (again) will republicans be forced to convict?

Trumps first impeachment trial had every republican vote "not guilty" where they said the reason was that the removal of the president shouldn't be by the judgement of congress, but in the hands of the people in the next election.

Despite lies about voter fraud, the people have voted Trump "guilty", so republicans will need a new reason to ignore the facts of the case. And the case for impeachment is about more than just removal from office, which will be a moot point by the time it goes to trial.

The power of Congress to disqualify an impeached president from holding office has received less attention through history than the power of Congress to remove a president from office. The Constitution is clear that after a House majority vote to impeach and a two-thirds Senate vote to convict, the president is removed from office.

Yet Article I Section VII clarifies that removal is not the only punishment impeachment can bring. It reads: “Judgment in Cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States.”

This clause shows definitively that the Senate can inflict a penalty that would prevent Trump from holding office again. Under established Senate practice, that vote to disqualify would require only a simple majority vote in the Senate,

The fact that Biden's inauguration is just days away gets the Republican crooks off the hook. So they will never need to answer your question about the need for a new reason to ignore the facts of the case.

So the democrats are manufacturing a reason to keep Trump from running against Harris in 2024 already huh?

It must be a scary world they live in.

Although it may appear moot, if articles of impeachment are made against President Trump, then the senate by law must hold a trial, even if days or weeks or months after the president was already removed from office by election.

Washington Post audio of Trump berating and threatening Georgia Secretary of State for not "finding" votes to change election result. Sedition?

Ah, the 'election integrity' party. Nothing says 'election integrity' like threatening a secretary of state to 'find' you more votes months after the election.

Oh yes the audio in which he said he wants to find without ordering or let alone suggesting that the Secretary of State do anything illegal or inappropriate........

It will put them in quite a pickle.

The difference is that they will no longer have their enabler to support them. And by voting "guilty" they have the power to end Trumps political influence as well. If Trump is stripped of being able to run for office, he could longer use his campaign. apparatus.

Trump is a symptom. Not the illness.

So the painful rectal itch is ever so slightly less infected. The fetid tumors that riddle that entire politcal movement like fat through a juicy roast are still oozing its disease and sickly ichor.

I don't think the point of this is to punish.

The problem is that Trump still has time to do some other stupid thing. And if he does and the Republicans don't vote to impeach, it will be their fault.

Actually that would be just one of the impeachment charges. You also have Trumps sedition in telling his supporters to go after the US Capitol Building.

But, while impeachment remains a choice, our government prefers to "look forward, not back." That "precedent" was set when "Watergate" was ignored to let Nixon off the hook, and when "Iran/Contra" was ignored to let Reagan off the hook. Yes, some of those involved in Watergate served time, but no one faced any consequences for Iran/Contra.

So, trump will face no charges for any of his federal crimes, with or without a presidential pardon.

Actually it's because, Trump doesn't worry about covid, the economy, and the stimulus, etc.

Trump has played golf, tweeted, called up the secretary of state of georgia to get him to change the voter certification, and urged his supporters to take over the US Capitol.

With 4 dead and their OWN FAMILIES endangerd by the seditious mob that ravaged the Capitol Building amid the insurrection that Trump sent barreling at them......these same fucks still peddled the conspiracy pablum to the same diseased constituency into the wee hours of the morning.

You think 'fault' is going to mean a thing to them? There are 360,000 dead Americans rotting as we speak because of their lack of leadership.

'Fault' doesn't mean shit to them. In the party of 'personal responsibility' it is *always* someone else's fault.
