I Just Quit Republican Party - Now Independent

Here’s more facts you’ve never heard before.

Damn he’s good!

Hey, what happened to our TOPIC here, guys ? You know - rent increases. Social Security "increases". Republicans. Independents. All that stuff.

But how can you vote for so-called "representitives" who sit back and allow your most expensive, constantly on-going expense (housing rent) to skyrocket 10-12% every year, while your Social Security "increases" 2.8% ?

Sure, Republicans have been good on stopping crime, illegal immigration,
Islamization, and lunatic LGBT & CRT things, but to be losing thousands of $$$$$ every year, and have politicians not even discussing it, is too much to bear.
How about because they have absolutely no control over that as COL increases are set by law?

You knew that, didn't you? If not, why not? You are arguing for an unattainable goal.

My rent has not increased, because I do not pay any. Perhaps you should have been a smarter investor and bought your home.

They can pass legislation changing it. They can pass legislation for just about anything, if they have the will for it. That would come from the people holding their feet to the fire.

Unfortunately, the people are disorganized sheep, but there's another reason. The primary ones to organize a pressure group would be renters themselves (although the business community also has a major dog in the fight to stop rent increases) -
There is a risk factor for renters. If their landlord sees them protesting rent increases, they could be kicked out of their residence. (landlord can refuse to renew their lease)

Headline:

Republican Party Gets Slightly Smarter and Less Racist
From a registered Independent >> The Republican Party is nowhere near as racist as the Democrat party, just on the basis of Affirmative Action racial discrimination, carried on for 60 years.

After voting fer Reagan in 1980 and seeing him **** us over, I became an independent.
Democrats recruit the stupid.
example: California, a democrat strong hole has the highest paid teachers in the nation. The state ranks 49th in reading and 48 in math. They pay the max for stupid, dumb, and ignorant. They not only open our borders but flatter these stupids with free-bees, transportation, food, housing, medical, rest-homes, a half ass education, get out of jail free cards while driving without insurance or license and do it all on your dime. It makes you wonder who are the real stupid.

There are other considerations beside $$ when choosing between renting & buying. Owning a home entails massive WORKLOAD all on the back of the homeowner, whereas the renter has the help to do that stuff.

You want Congress to pass legislation to make SS go bankrupt even faster than the break-neck speed it is headed there already? Do you want to raise SS COL increases or do you want to restrict rent increases? Which is it? I am unsure of what you really want.

Rent increases are outside the scope of federal power.

In the Navy, we had a saying, choose your rate (job) choose your fate!

If you don't want the increased cost of buying then you are faced with the increased costs when the rent increases. What part of that do you not understand? I chose to buy my houses whenever possible and I made a lot of money by doing so. It is an investment. Don't want to pay for it, you don't get the return. Right now you choose to rent, so you pay the increased prices. People who own their home or don't pay rent, do not.

In America nt all thungs are handled by private enterprise, Sme thungs are done by the state. Wanna get rid of the police, fire dept., US post office, Social Security. That's the American way if doing things. Don't like it ?
Cuba's not too far away. Syria. Mexico.
You commented against statism, and then bring up totalitarian countries. You old fool

They may not pay the increased rent, but they sure pay big when the electrician or plumber has to be called in. When its time to replace an AC, washing nachime or refrigerator. Roof. Termites. Need I go any further ?

Nothing is outside the scope of federal power if federal power decides to put it in its scope.

With the precarious scenario of Social Security, I would say restricting rent increases (+ rollbacks) is probably the way to go, at last in the short term.

I cant understand why landlords seem to be such an untouchable, privileged group, when they are annihilating 112 million renters, 40 million small business owners, 160 million stockholders of small & large businesses. And they are a tiny % of the population.

If republicans had their way, they’d eliminate Social Security (and Medicare) all together and give the billionaires another tax cut and let the money trickle on down.
It's unfair billionaires have to pay far more in taxes than anyone else. Given that that is the case, why doesn't it make sense that the biggest taxpayers get the biggest tax cuts?

I just changed my political party from Republican to Independent. Yes, I agree with Trump on a variety of things BUT there is one glaring (if not terrifying) thing that is staring me in the face, that I don't see anybody even talking about, much less dealing with it. That is the outrageous discrepancy between the yearly Social Security COLA (Cost of living Adjustment) increase in our monthly Social Security check, and the monstrous housing rent increases that landlords have been walloping us with.

So what does this mean in $$ & cents ? The 2025 & 2026 COLAs both were 2.8%. So our Social Security checks went up 2.8%.
This gave me a "whopping" (insulting) $31/month more to my income. At the same time, my apartment rent went up $104. So I LOST $73 per month. That's like going out in the street and being mugged for $73 once every month. Or being mugged for $876 once a year. Or $4,380 every 5 years.

For $4,380, I could buy a helluva nice guitar and mandolin, both of excellent quality.

It would be nice if some politicians were to even BE TALKING ABOUT THIS, much less doing something about it.

So, all you seniors out there, collecting Social Security, have you contacted your folks in Congress ? A 2018 study done by the Senior citizens League showed a noticable 34% loss of buying power since 2000 - and that was before housing rents went on their astronomical surges of the 2020s (and showing no sign of diminishing). REMEMBER >>> If your congressmen don't hear from you, THEY THINK YOURE HAPPY, AND DOING FINE.

Either the rents have to be controlled, or the COLAs need to be increased (or both). Doing nothing is unacceptable. Unless you think getting poorer & poorer with each passing year is acceptable - in which case, you'll need to have your head examined.

Note - 73% of Social Security recipients rely on it for most of their income. 50% rely on it for ALL of their income.

Every has a line.
