So if someone were to take their computer to, say, the Geek Squad for repair and they found child porn on the hard drive, and notified law enforcement, they have violated the owners private data?

There are states that have laws requiring someone who repairs, installs, or whatever a computer to report finding child porn.

When this story first broke I recall the repairman had indicated that he found things he thought were illegal on the computer and contacted the FBI. Whether it was child porn or obvious secret information, I do not know.

Had there been nothing very troubling on the computer, this repairman would never have contacted the FBI or continued to follow up.

Hunter is going to have a really hard time showing the information wasn't owned by the shop owner who gave it to them legally. They are attempting to make anything learned from the lap top fruit of the poisonous tree. This is a last-ditch effort to protect Joe Biden and his family from criminal indictments.
