How Trump's plan to deport undocumented immigrants threatens the U.S. farm workforce

Among the thousands of rapists, drug dealers, murderers and shoplifters deported so far, how many farm workers were mixed in?

Probably most of them.

Most of the people being deported aren't charged with more serious crime.

But, while Trump administration officials are highlighting the arrests of undocumented criminals, the latest news suggests that many of those detained are restaurant workers, house cleaners and others who have committed no criminal offenses. Being an undocumented immigrant is a civil offense, not a crime, unless the person had earlier been deported and re-entered the United States illegally, immigration lawyers say. On Sunday’s nationwide immigration raids, immigration agents detained 613 people with criminal records, and 566 with no criminal histories, NBC News and The Wall Street Journal reported. Take the case of the Jan. 23 immigration raid at Ocean Seafood Depot, a seafood market in Newark, New Jersey, where workers clean and sell shellfish. A witness who spoke to Telemundo’s TV station there said armed immigration officers entered the small business and arrested three long-time workers. “None of these people were rapists or murderers or criminals,” Newark mayor Ras Baraka said later. In a statement, Baraka also accused ICE of detaining both undocumented residents and U.S. citizens.

‘Farmers are facing several challenges in keeping their businesses running, including climate change, bird flu outbreaks and higher costs for feed and fertilizer. Now, many of America's farmers must face the possibility of the Trump administration uprooting a huge part of the workforce with its threat of deporting millions of undocumented immigrants. "It's a lot of hands to hand-harvest fruits and vegetables," New Jersey farmer Kurt Alstede said.

More than two-thirds of U.S. crop workers are foreign born, according to the USDA. Many of them came to the country through the H-2A visas, but officials estimate that 42% of the workers are undocumented migrants. Since his first day in office, President Trump has already issued a slew of executive actions to start reshaping federal immigration and border policies. Many of them are expected to face significant legal challenges, but the administration has created fear and uncertainty in the community.’

Most farmers have only themselves to blame, having voted for Trump, against their own interests.

And the threat to the U.S. farm workforce is completely unnecessary, the consequence of Trump voters’ racism, bigotry, and hate, and their unwarranted obsession with the non-issue of immigration.
You're a racist
Why do you hate black Americans

Why are farm workers committing ANY crime, serious or not?

They've been saying the same thing about their crop picking slaves for the past 50 years. Why not make our underachieving HS grads do that work. MAGA
Forv3x the pay the foreign workers get then yes.

In Washington State in the 60's the wheat crops were harvested with a lot of highschoolers working, Not sure when that changed.
When the New Crybaby Generation showed up thinking they are OWED something. Others paying their way.

Some people were just born to be Homeless. KARMA

There is no limit to H-2A visas

Farmers and migrants are just too lazy to do do things legally

I can't speak to H2A visa, but having sponsored my wife for a CR-1 Visa where I had to chuck out $4000 and submit 200 pages of documentation, and I will probably have to upgrade that to an IR-1 Visa next year and chuck out yet more money, I can see why a farmer wouldn't want to bother filing hundreds of pages of documents when there's an undocumented immigrant RIGHT HERE, who is going to work for the few weeks you need him.

I want to see all criminal illegal aliens deported, no questions asked

That includes rapists, murderers, criminal gangs, shop lifters, drunk drivers, and domestic abusers

Next will come illegals who have been in the country less than 4 years

They have to go

Then we can look at farm workers who the farmers want to employ

If they have been here over 4 years and have squeaky clean records they can sign up for a seasonal unaccompanied guest worker program that allows them to work legally and return to mexico between harvests

Next comes all others

They have a shot at an unaccompanied green card too if they meet all the requirements

But libs and migrants have to understand that they are not immigrants and there is no pathway to citizenship

As to your particular situation with your chinese wife I have no opinion either way

She wants a pathway to citizenship and yo do that you will have to deal with the current system and hope for the best

Good luck

The priority is for criminal aliens

Blame your lib democrat sanctuary policies for the 566 non criminal arrests

Border czar Tom Homan makes it clear that when ICE finds a criminal illegal alien, and other illegsls with him will be picked up also

So instead of having the local sanctuary city asshole police chief honoring an ICE detainer they release the alien back onto the street

Thats why aliens without a criminal record are being arrested also
