Then I got word that they were picked up just outside the campus. Happened Friday afternoon.
No word on whether or not they'll be back.
So I unpacked my old janitorial skills from way back and did everything from the floors to the carpets to the toilets in my building. Took out the Trash and the recycling. Don't know what the rest of the campus did.

I don't hate them in general. I even understand their plight.

But they didn't apply for anything; they broke in. Doesn't make them terrible people, but does make them at risk of deportation.

• Vacumed all the carpets,
• Emptied the trash at each desk, in the break rooms, rest rooms, and public areas,

• Did the job you were actually hired to do during the period of time you were supposed to be working at the job you were hired to do?

Or are you saying that you did your regular job on Friday and then went in yesterday to do all the janitorial cleaning for the entire building?

Fortunately my building is not that big. It houses the Gas Turbine and auxiliary boilers with the support equipment. Two stories with Three office spaces and prolly 4500 sqft carpet.

Three restrooms and probably 12 waste paper baskets.

About 20 minutes of wet mopping the sand and salt.

Going forward everyone will have to pitch in until they get somebody. Now the rest of the campus is considerable....I have no idea what was done out there.

anecdotally ,going on 4 decades of construction repetitively revealed most to have no further skills than that of operating a broom

But to do this we need to vastly improve the ability of employers to verify work eligibility - the current I-9 system doesn't work.

Remove the reason illegals come here as prevention.

As to the "chidlren of illegals" that depends. If the child is here illegally, then I'm fine with deporting the child along with the parents. If the child is a US citizen the parents have options: (a) take the child with them, (b) assign loco parentis to someone willing to take them, (c) turn then over to the state for foster care adoption.

I have no problem with requiring proof of legal status to access public education services, qualification for "in-state" tuition, and access to social services for those here legally.

Yes it does. Agree with all of this. Many people do not understand the strain illegal immigration puts on our schools and hospitals. However, I never hold this against the children in my school. They're kids. They didn't do anything wrong--their parents did

I have to admit, we don't have an issue with hiring as 100% of our staff from the Superintendent down to janitors and food service have to complete fingerprinting and State Police/FBI backkground checks.d

In the couple of decades I've been at this, most people know before being hired. There have been a handful of times that people came to HR for printing (we have out own machine directly tied to the State Police for electronic submission) and when they saw they were going to be printed...

Just said "never mind" and left. I can't tell of course if they were here illegally or had a criminal record that would pop.

The problem is, many industries rely on undocumented labor. So they'll make a few showy raids, but a lot of the undocumented just won't show up for work once word gets out that's where the ICE Jackboots are this week. They'll get jobs somewhere else.
