How to spot a troll?

Wrong! A lie can be a direct answer, but not necessarily so...
No. An answer is an answer. If it’s a lie, it may still be a direct answer. But it’s not an honest answer.

Your quibbles are irrational.

Seems to me that the phrase "internet troll " has changed meaning over the decades. It used to refer to someone trolling for information about a subject. They would go to an internet messageboard and purposefully instigate heated arguments between other forumers so they could learn more about the subject with minimal personal effort.

After that trolls devolved. They majority of trolls were not trolling for information anymore, trolls just instigated people for the entertainment value.

Now the troll has further devolved into the OP. Just low IQ one or two line mindless drivel.

Seems too nowadays,it means someone who posts something that someone finds annoying or that a person feels is nonsense.

When it originally meant something like someone who would post something to a forum like "you're gay"

"This video game sucks, why would you waste time on it"

"The band you are listening to sucks, listen to another band"

Or posting something like goatse, meatspin or the like.

Just ask them a direct question.

Trolls will not answer direct questions under any circumstances.
I do not think there could be trolls on a small forum.

Almost all trolls and bots appear on Social Media Giants. The audience is much bigger.
