Here is an idea whose time has come.

How to fix American Politics: The Easy Way.

1. Dorm rooms for Congressmen and Senators.
- Instead of living high on the hog, Congressmen and Senators should live in a dorm room type building. Instead of hosting lavish parties for fundraisers, they can sit at their desks and ponder good public policies.

2. Minimum Wage for Congressmen and Senators.
- Since they will be living in public housing, it only makes sense to pay them no more than the minimum wage. And it will be based on how much time the house and senate are actually doing the people's work. No more getting elected and working 4 days a week for 2 hours a day.

3. Fundraising.
- Congressmen and Senators should only be allowed to fundraise in their own districts. They are there to do our business, not the business of a district across the country. If businesses want to contribute to a Congressmen or Senators campaign, fine. Just make sure you have an office in that district.

4. Term Limits.
- Won't need them if #1 and #2 are enacted. Who the hell wants to live in DC, in a dorm room and making minimum wage?

Those are my thoughts on how to fix the broken American Political mess.

Not bad but the problem is that they make all the rules for themselves. Representation of the people who elected them is a joke. The simply don't do what the people want them to do.

It gets the money out of politics, more or less, and it turns career congressmen into one termers. They get in, do what they say they will, and go back home.

Instead of millionaires being elected, we might actually have common sense people running, winning, and making real changes in Washington.

Politicians are slaves to the media. The media is the one who gets them elected. The media is the ones who sets the agenda. The media is the ones who can set the tone and force nearly any politican to bend to their whim. They can make democrats support the Iraq War, the can make Republicans support gay marraige. The power of the media must be broken through grassroots internet based news. We need to question every angle the media presents. The mainstream media has proven it cannot be trusted time and time again but the American public comes back for more because thats all their was. This is changing. Every time a site becomes influential the media who controls this country will try to buy, such as Murdoch buying myspace. The people need to let them waste their money buying these sites and then move on to a new uncontrolled grassroots venture.

Term limits are probably unconstitutional and would deprive us of the chance of re-electing someone that was actually good.

Yeah, attacking congressman isn't going to fix anything. I know it's a popular past time, but seriously. Giving minimum wage to congressman would insure that no one but extremely rich men with a lot of wealth built up could afford to go there. What's the point of forcing them to live in dorms?

And why should individuals be allowed to contribute to the campaigns of people in other districts? The only thing that would do is to protect incumbents. It's a fact that if I'm in a district with a Republican and I'm a Democrat I'm not really being represented - why can't I send my money to a Democratic district that represents me far better?

So we exchange one crook for another is that your point? The Presidency is quite different, a President at the end of the term is well aware that his actions heavily effect how electable his party is for, the next Presidency, Senate and House of Representatives.
