Something I've said a thousand times here is that it's not the the issue or the goal that is the problem. The problem is the way it's being addressed. His behaviors and temperament are simply not going to work in an intelligent, professional, civilized environment. He clearly doesn't understand that the way he approaches things can be a MASSIVE net negative.

So now, Republicans have to worry about the long term effects he will have on their agenda. I think they have many perfectly reasonable concerns and positions. But if this trajectory continues, he'll so soil that agenda that it will take a long time to recover. In the meantime, we'd be careening back to the Left. It's clear that he and his sycophants have not considered that.

This has always been my biggest concern. People frequently are surprised that I don't support Trump, because there is some overlap - at least in what people believe his values to be. I say I want limited government, individual rights (instead of identity politics) and actual fiscal responsibility - and people say, "well, Trump's your man". But he's just not. He doesn't actually value these principles and frequently contradicts them. I don't think he even understands them.

But at the end of the day, people will look at Trump's fiasco and say - "Well, that's what conservativism wrought... hell with that! MOAR SOSHULISM!"
