With the High SALT states and High cost of living states having a high correlation, outliers like AK and FL notwithstanding, How much will Tax reform also shrink interstate differences in cost of living? This contention was brought up by one of the moderators. FL gets most of its revenue from people fleeing an AK writ small and AK has massive natural resource reserves. PR and VI can be rebuilt to compete with FL and isolated, disaster prone HI does remarkably well with its lock on the West Coast.

There are also five states that have unsustainable levels of taxes and cost of living. IL and CA are in continuous fiscal disaster trying to avoid Chapter 3 bankruptcy and they have managed to stay afloat since the late 90s with the fiscal equivalent of chewing gum and baling wire. NY,NJ, MA can and maybe will straighten out the mess they are in. The other 9 blue wall states other than HI each have a better than even chance of meddling as in 3-4 will at least have one near involuntary experience with Chapter three. Currently the Blue and Purple states "enjoy" high taxes that increase costs every step of the way in the supply chain. So how fast will pressure on SALT reduce cost of living differentials in the lower 48?
