Man charged after home invasion where soldier mom, 21, was shot twice

Police have charged a 23-year-old man with attempted murder after a shootout with an Army National Guard combat medic in the stairwell of her home.

Reco Latur Dawkins Jr turned himself in to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police on Sunday and was charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering in connection to the Tuesday break-in.

Semantha Bunce, 21, was at home breast-feeding her four-month-old son Bentley when the intruders arrived on Tuesday morning, according to CNN.

The men knocked on the front door, rang the doorbell and kicked in the door of her home east Charlotte, North Carolina.

The mother-of-two quickly took her son to the bedroom and placed him in the crib before grabbing her gun.

When the men opened fire at her in the stairwell, she then fired back from the bedroom door.
