How long is everyone here generally prepped for? Two weeks? More?

Looks like the preppers ready for Doomsday are having the last laugh. While the first weeks after the shutdown was a rush to the supermarkets in search of food and toilet paper, looks like things have calmed down for now. At least until markets announce they can't stay open because their employees won't come to work anymore, and Trump announces it will be another two months..

So I'm wondering what is everyone ready for? Two weeks? A month? Did the preppers make you see the light and you are ready for more? Taking a pulse on American preparedness for SHTF. It hasn't yet you know.

I got 5-6 boxes of pasta, 3-4 jars of sauce, a large bag of rice, some cornmeal, some grits, and about 30 cans of soup. Also 20 cans or so of vegetables and 5-6 cans of tuna. I go shopping once a week for sausage, chicken, bread, eggs, and fresh fruit and vegetables. As long as I have water, power and natural gas, I'm probably good for a month if the shit hits the fan.

I started buying extra canned stuff around February, not much, just 1-2 extra cans each week.

I've prepped for the long term, but I am having to discard a lot of my canned goods that have 2014 and 2015 for the expiration dates. I used to rotate them with fresh cans as I ate the oldest ones, but I couldn't keep up. Now I've had to rotate the oldest to the trash.

I think cans are generally good way past expiration dates. Keep reading stories of 10 year old canned food that was fine.

Money, I’m good for 5 years. Food, two weeks.
only if money still has value beyond toilet paper,,,
It always will. Not all of us will stop working. My company can’t function without me. I just work from home. Eventually things will go back to normal. Obama level normal. Same normal you had last year. 2.3% growth. Maga my ass. So the masses are screwed. You won’t be getting a raise for another 5 years.

But hey, you libertarians say jus5 let the market work itself out. No guberment checks.

and why do you all need money from the guberment so soon? It’s only been a month.

and for you anti guberment republicans, send your checks back or you’re all socialists.
well somebody just had a public breakdown,,,are you better now???
Yea. My dad just brought me some toilet paper, tuna, apple juice, a fully cooked fish dinner. And I'm a half hour being done with work, from my home. I'm glad to be working. You?

The Wife and I are good for six months of grub but the selection would get sparse.
Water wouldnt be an issue for a looooong time.

But long before the grub got that sketchy we'd have packed up and headed to fish camp.
I watch that show where they're naked and out in the woods alone and hungry. I see how happy they are to catch a fish. You can stand on my dock and catch a million little fish with just string a hook and worm or corn. If you fish like a man you can catch bigger fish like bass pike walley musky. Kind of nice living on a lake. Plus I can boil the water and drink it.

But when all the store bought is gone and you're hungry you'll eat your belt.

the wife moved all her work home,,,the new herd of chickens are still a month away from laying,,,

its like heaven here,,,

the only down side is I havent been able to build a shop at home yet but its only 3/4 mile away which is where I'm at now,,,

In a time of national emergency such as this one 'money' is only good to use as asswipe.
Really? Because I keep making my car payments. Do you think you won't owe your car note this month just because you don't have any money? Boy it's crazy how liberal conservative get when they run out of money. Now you're into debt forgiveness? Maybe you should have voted for Bernie or Warren.

Oh...and you're a dumbass if you spend your time fishing when you can set up Yo Yo's to do your fishing for you.
As well as setting rat traps in hardwoods to catch squirrels.
You're talking to someone who spent their life roaming the woods of Texas and living off the land.
We go out and bring nothing but a frying pan.

Well in generally, I keep enough supplies on hand for a month, no matter what. This isn't because I'm worried about a dooms day situation, but rather..... I hate shopping.

So I could easily make it months if I really dragged out the supplies. As with anything, how much you use, is as important as home much you buy. I buy tons of rice. I love rice. A small amount of seasoning, and a $20 worth of rice can last you months.

It's all about being frugal, and not wasting money on what you really don't need.

If the country collapses

I could do a year. when people are out of food the law be damned that's when the hungry go hunting and fishing ....or riot and loot in more culturally enriched cities and burbs ...

Rabbit cages are a good idea even for suburbanites

I was caught off guard, so if the power & water still flow, I can go 3+ months before I will have to go to my bug-out farm location. The problem is my wife can't go a week & I am low on ammo. Only 350 rounds between 4 guns.

And rabbits would be easy to come by with leg snares and live traps.
Ya keep catching em until you get a male and a few females and you'll be making a shitload of protein in no time.

Crazy right they breed like rabbits ...in a collapsed economy the skins and the meat is cash in the barter bank
Here They're running around everywhere at night ...lots of critters to eat

About three years, give or take a couple of months.

If it gets real bad, I have 144 acres in the hills of Tennessee with a trout stream and a spring about a hundred yards from the front door. Plenty of game. The garden is still fertile. It's about the size of a football field. Been in the same spot for several generations.

Berries ,fruit trees, nut trees. Pretty sweet hole in the wall, really.

And a good line of sight downhill. Ahem.

Of course, I'm an injun, so. I'm more likely to sneak up on a zombie and pop outta the weeds and scalp the mofo. Heh heh.

Nice putting green. Why aren't you there now ?
Divert the stream into ponds. Add a water wheel if it has enough ass......and you have enough brainz

Exactly.
Although I really wouldnt want to barter with anyone if I could avoid it.
Staying incognito would up your chances of living through a SHTF situation considerably.
