Hegseth renames USNS Harvey Milk. Now named USNS Oscar V. Peterson

Evers was in transportation and in the Army. A better name for a Navy ship would be Doris Miller, a real hero or at the least Carl Brashear. Not some activist who happened to be in the military.

They are naming a Ford-class carrier after Miller.

Maybe we should stop naming ships after people altogether.

During WWII, we named Carriers after Battles, Battleships after States, Cruisers after Cities, and Submarines after Sea Creatures.

(I think Destroyers, though, were named after people.)

Nope.

We do not need to give honor to racist traitors who tried to destroy the union.
Each former CS person a base was named after also served the Union before and/or after the American Civil War and were welcomed back into the arms of the reunited nation.

So, using that "logic", when do we name a base after Benedict Arnold? He was a noted hero until he realized Washington was kind of full of shit and switched to the British.

The problem was they shouldn't have been "Welcomed back". They should have been tried for treason and punished.

Not to mention, some of them were TERRIBLE Generals.

Braxton Bragg was an American army officer during the Second Seminole and Mexican–American Wars.

Bragg, a native of Warrenton, North Carolina, was educated at West Point and became an artillery officer. He served in Florida and then received three brevet promotions for distinguished service in the Mexican–American War, most notably the Battle of Buena Vista.

Big mistake. The problem after the Civil War is we never held anyone accountable. The ex-Confederates turned right around, formed the Klan, instituted Jim Crow, and we are STILL paying for our failures.

Now, imagine if you would, if after the Civil War, we had a Nuremberg-style tribunal for the ex-Confederates that emphasized not only their many war crimes, but the horrors of slavery in general. No one today would want a plantation wedding any more than they'd want a Concentration Camp wedding.

No one today in Germany flies the Swastika, but there are inbred idiots who still fly the Stars and Bars proudly.

The south was the nation's breadbasket it had to come back in to the fold.

Try not posting what comedians say. Especially when Chris Rock has said this about whites:

Well, I wouldn't go that far.

He had a relationship with Jack Galen McKinley, who was either 16 or 17 when they started their relationship. If he was 17, he was above the age of consent in NY State, where they started their relationship.

Still uncool, a 17 year old does not have the maturity of a 33 year old.

On the other hand, McKinley had issues, and Milk probably prevented him from killing himself, so there's that. .
He was 16. This is proven. And it was in SF.

There is no need for these renamings.
Take it from an ex Navy airman, no one wants their ship to be named after a famous gay dude. Its ******* embarrassing and i PROMISE they get teased by other ships in their naval group. There is no place for this woke crap in the military. It just brings shame to the unfortunate sailors who are sent to that ship.

You dont name warships after gay civil rights figures. You name them after warriors and presidents. :cuckoo:
.

And states. I was in Bremerton when the Battleship Missouri left there. I loved it -- pipers and all.
