Hegseth renames USNS Harvey Milk. Now named USNS Oscar V. Peterson

They will remove the rainbow flag from the ship.

Nor was there a need to rename bases and tear down commemorative statues, eh?
Actually there was a need to tear down symbols of white supremacy and slavery, as well as rename bases that were named for Confederate soldiers.

Whites aren't the only people here, and some of the history that whites want celebrated was a history of oppression for others here.

  • Rank: Chief Watertender

    U.S.S. Neosho
  • Military Service Branch: U.S. Navy

Citation
For extraordinary courage and conspicuous heroism above and beyond the call of duty while in charge of a repair party during an attack on the U.S.S. Neosho by enemy Japanese aerial forces on 7 May 1942. Lacking assistance because of injuries to the other members of his repair party and severely wounded himself, Peterson, with no concern for his own life, closed the bulkhead stop valves and in so doing received additional burns which resulted in his death. His spirit of self-sacrifice and loyalty, characteristic of a fine seaman, was in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Naval Service. He gallantly gave his life in the service of his country."

Try not posting what comedians say. Especially when Chris Rock has said this about whites:

Chris Rock Says White People Are ‘Mentally Handicapped’ Abusers Who Don’t Understand Racism

I don't care one way or the other if the ship is called Harvey Milk or something else. It's not a battle that I personally would have picked, however, Harvey Milk had a relationship with an underage boy. He's probably not somebody who should be martyred.

That aside, you aren't presenting a defense as to why the ship shouldn't be renamed. You're launching personal attacks the man who did it.

Okay, this is actually a rational argument. This kind of behavior would get you cancelled if it was a heterosexual.

But sweet evil Jesus, people, it was an Oiler, not a destroyer or an aircraft carrier.

Who ships or bases are named after seems pretty low on the "Military readiness scale".
