US Navy launches ship to commemorate gay rights activist Harvey Milk

I do not really agree with the naming of ships being used as a political tool/reward but damn watching people's heads explode over this has been fun as hell. One of the more entertaining threads in the past few days
I agree. Harvey Milk was a bad choice, but watching this own the homophobes is almost worth it.

There isn't even a ship named after Martin Luther King. So what the **** is up with pushing Harvey Milk to the front of the line?

US Navy ships are usually named after naval heroes or famous naval battles. Carriers are named after Presidents and cabinet-level officers. Submarines are named after states.

There is only one navy ship named after a black person, and he was a hero at Pearl Harbor. And he rightly deserves to have a ship named after him rather than MLK or Milk.

This politicalization of ship-naming is against naval tradition.

Actually, it isn't a bad idea. Having a lavender painted battleship called the USS Buttfuck would put all of the limp wristed light in the loafer type sailors on the same boat.
