Have any of you trusted Amazon with a code to your home?

I wouldn't hardly trust them with my zipcode, let alone any code to my house.

If I had a code to my house.

Hillbillies don't generally have codes.

I have smart locks

Nope. All my security is hat-wired and not available online. No wireless alarms, thermostats, or any shit like that either. Definitely no Echo or Dot type “assistants” either. Nothing like that now or ever in my house.

I have 3 cameras covering my front porch, a mail slot in the door & a large delivery drop box with a code lock.

That is so I can record when tenants drop payments through the slot. I never need to hold mail, have anyone bring in mail or tell anyone I left town. I can also securely receive packages while I'm gone.

Many times my cameras show the mailman delivering things to the wrong address or not delivering things they claim they did.

Just had my first package stolen a few days ago from my porch.
It is a very dirty feeling and severely pisses me off.

Anyone try the Amazon key or code feature?
Please don't let a bad experience set you down a path to another bad experience. Don't let anyone into your home who you don't know especially, in your absence.

Maybe try a Ring camera or something similar and if the camera doesn't deter another theft then publicize their photo on the "Neighborhood" network or any other place you want them to appear (like Assholes.com) and make things less secure for their life of crime.

Or you can have your packages delivered to a close by locker. I think our 7-11s have Amazon lockers.

No, because I have never had a package ripped off.
Neither have I.
But then again, I live in a secluded cul-de-sac, and upstairs in the back of the complex.

Why not just keep your doors and windows unlocked and open?

Or...........you could install one of these heavy duty lock boxes.............

Have some friends that were having a problem with some mail being stolen for a while.
I bought this front porch seat/storage bin for their front porch.
They have some high bushes, and the color blends in with their dark brick.
It's not really something you'd notice unless you were paying attention.
But it looks like a seat.
They were having problems with some mail being stolen for a while, so I got this for them.
Told them to just let the delivery people know they can use it if its too big for their regular mailbox.
It's been pretty handy too, for leaving stuff on their porch for them when they are at work.

In rural areas, the delivery drivers are, for the most part, well known to the folks. Our only trespassers up here are bears who steal our garbage and make a huge mess!!!

Some ideas for getting back at porch pirates..............

1. Keep your Amazon shipping boxes (or brand name boxes). Fill them with dried dog or cat shit. Wrap them back up nice and neat. Be sure to put a fake label on it, so theres none of your personal info on it.
Place it on the porch for the pirates to steal.

2. Buy something like this............

It might be all right if you get the camera that records every time the door opens. At least you would know they actuall left the package, and a video of who stole it.

Yup! - Many times my cameras show the mailman delivering things to the wrong address or not delivering things they claim they did.

Cameras are also good at proving the trash man didn't pick up the trash, spilled trash or destroyed trash bin.

I don't know if I would be comfortable giving Amazon access to the inside of our home or garage. Most of our immediate neighbors' homes are bristling with security cams that now also cover our home since our car was stolen last year. We are blessed with neighbors who look out for each other. Our front door is mostly shielded from being seen from the street via a small walled in courtyard and we have a security gate across the front porch that is locked if we are gone or locked in for the night. All that came with the house when we bought it.

But our neighbors who are more exposed than we are will sometimes ask us to watch for packages at their place and put them inside. That might be the best bet for you if you have neighbors you can trust. And I've been told that even fake home security alarm signs and fake security cam if you can't afford the real thing will give package thieves pause. They don't know whether you can monitor them on your phone.

Another option if it wouldn't mess up your home appearance is a large lock box vault thing and tell Amazon where the hidden key is.

Semi rural. So far no one has ever porch pirated us. We put in instructions to deliver to back door and about half the drivers catch that.

I would need a shed lol. I order some absurdly large items. Last large order was 4 new tires.
