That generation in privileged work, did quite well. Prices were low for food and housing. President Johnson's legislation in the mid 1960's started to form cracks in the great American century. Whether the intentions were good or not. We kept the fiat currency under control until the early 1970's. Today we are all used to the checks of the welfare state, social security and Medicare, Medicaid, pensions and more. Someone has to pay for it. The real freedom is not free that Progs promote 24 hours a day is that we need to increase higher paying manufacturing and trades employment.
