We used to ban the export of oil from the US. I suppose we could return to that policy. It was only lifted in 2015.

There are a great many things for which we are dependent on sources outside the US. If the economies that produce these things goes bust, we are also damaged. Look at the increase in the cost of autos because of the tariffs.,
